John Corigliano

For Voice and Piano Corigliano's Mr. Tambourine Man: Seven Poems of Bob Dylan was a commission by The Carnegie Hall Corporation for Sylvia McNair and was premiered at her Carnegie Hall recital given March 15 2002with Martin Katz at the piano. Corigliano who had never encountered Dylan's own musical settings of the chosen poems has given us new musical settings of icons of American folk music from the 1960s.

Score and Parts-Fanfares to Music was commissioned by the Lincoln Center and first performed in 1993. Antiphon was written for the dedication of the new Apex field house in New York in 1994. For DoubleBrass Quintet.

Score and Parts-This string quartet was inspired by a photo of Corigliano's father playing a violin and his uncle playing the guitar. It was commissioned by the Elements String Quartet and premiered in November 2003 at Merkin Concert Hall inNew York City.

Score-While Promenade Overture can be performed with the orchestra seated throughout in traditional fashion it is engineered to allow the players to enter playing building the orchestra from an almost empty stage. Thepremise of Promenade Overture took root years ago when the composer was caught off guard by Haydn's delightful Farewell Symphony. This Haydn work is often used to end a concert because during the last movement theplayers gradually exit leaving two violins to finish the symphony on a bare stage. Since overtures usually begin concerts a reverse of this procedure - the entrance of the orchestra while playing - became both an interestingidea and a compositional challenge.

Transient Glory Series-The composer writes: Set to a text by E.Y. Yip Harburg lyricist of the film The Wizard of Oz and the musical Finian's Rainbow this work looks forward to one sweet morning when out of the flags and the bones buried under theclover spring will bloom and _x001A_Peace will come. It is an exalted prayer for the future and when sung by young people who are the future has special meaning.

Originally written for Guitar and Chamber Orchestra this three-part lyrical concerto is a series of free variations on an original troubadour style melody.
