Aspirations is written for the most beginning musicians. It uses minimal material, including no more than two repeated eighth notes as the most difficult rhythm. It contains bold fanfare gestures, marcato main melodic material, and a contrasting legato theme. Every section of the ensemble is featured in this sophisticated piece.Aspirations is written for the youngest and least experiences musicians, who have only had a short time on their instruments. This piece uses minimal material, including no more than two repeated eighth notes as the most difficult rhythm. When I composepieces for young people, I often try to pick titles that will be uplifting and inspiring. Certainly, we want our young musicians to aspire to great things through music. The pieces opens with a fanfare type of musical gesture. This material is the glue that holds the piece together. It should be played marcato throughout. The main melody then follows, first sparse and then with the full ensemble. A bridge section is presented that is legato that leads to a return of the main melody. Some development then begins with fragments of the melody taken by the lower strings followed by interjections by the upper strings on the opening fanfare material. After this development, the piece builds to one final full statement of the main melody and then a short coda based on the fanfare material to bookend the piece. As with all of my pieces for young students, I encourage you to adjust the tempo to fit this needs of your students. My tempo is only a recommendation and you should chose a tempo that best works for your students. It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece. I hope you and your students enjoy it and find it useful for your program.??Larry ClarkLakeland, FL 2017.

For me, as someone who considers myself far removed from Christian spirituality and closer to the concept of Immanence than to any form of Transcendence, it was obvious to me that I would not compose a Miserere comparable to Alesandro Scarlatti's Lamentazioni. It was also my wish to theatricalise the subject matter, following pagan rituals which appear to have been retained in the monastic Tenebrae services up to Renaissance times. In the series of sequences in which silence plays a prominent role, a path leads to strange rites in which the listeners are invited to stamp their feet on the ground, creating waves of thundering sound, or accompany the chanting of texts. Three sopranos take on an instrumental role, deploying a broad range of vocal sounds from aspirations to screams. Thierry Pecou.

Goethe's dramatic ballad The First Walpurgis Night inspired Mendelssohn to write a magnificent and vivid portrayal of the conflict between an old heathen community and the new aspirations of Christianization, between belief and superstition on both sides. In 1833 Mendelssohn had his ballad premiered, but he decided to make far-reaching revisions before he finally had the work published in 1844. The Carus edition by the leading Mendelssohn scholar R. Larry Todd is based on the first printed edition of the score and thus the last authentic version of the work. This important choral work by Mendelssohn is now available in a modern Urtext edition, with full score (in two languages), vocal score, choral score and orchestral material available on sale, as well as a CD recording by the Kammerchor Stuttgart conducted by Frieder Bernius (planned for autumn 2019). Score available separately - see item CA.4013800.

Diabelli's church music has unjustly largely fallen into oblivion. In his Pastoral Mass in F, the Austrian composer of the Biedermeier period succeeded in achieving a balance between artistic aspirations and a form suitable for practical performance. With a duration of about 30 minutes, the work is of easy to medium difficulty, and is therefore extremely suitable for amateur choirs with orchestra. The Pastoral Mass is suitable for performance both at Christmas time and beyond.

This work is a celebration of the journey towards womanhood with its joys, mysteries and possibilities. Spirited ascending melodies, dance-like rhythms and vocal percussive sounds unfold into a structured improvisation wherein the members of the choir whisper their aspirations for the future, together forming a sea of sonic dreams.

Exploding from the page with a clarion call to service, this epic song is something to be experienced. Written in a timeless poetic style, the significant text covers the spiritual journey of the church with respect and lofty aspirations. The resolute hymn-like theme is tastefully harmonized, interspersed with unison and two-part writing for power and clarity. A new bridge recently added by the songwriters and artist Chris Tomlin proclaims a glorious call to the church to Arise, shine, for your light has come. A luxurious orchestration is also available bringing a cinematic scope to a song that has already become a modern-day sacred classic. Highly recommended! Whereas in past decades Urtext editions with assorted aspirations and readings by various editors were the primary points of departure in addressing Beethoven's piano sonatas, today it is more often the question of what significance so-called instructive editions have in the history of interpretation, what additional benefit is generated from them, and wherein lies their legitimacy. Unlike his teacher Hans von Bulow in his edition of the sonatas, Lamond did not allow any intervention in the music text per se. His indications give instead interpretive approaches, additionally inspiring today's musicians in the realization of the musical composition. By the beginning of the 20th century he was a successful and celebrated pianist, concertizing in the US and across much of Europe. He repeatedly caused a stir with his Beethoven projects such as performing sixteen sonatas as well as the Diabelli and Eroica variations within four days at the Queen's Hall in London (1925). Dating from this period is also his edition of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas that first appeared from Breitkopf & Hartel in 1923. Frederic Lamond thus epitomizes Beethoven interpretation. Even today his name is still associated primarily with Beethoven. The present ,,Instructive Edition of Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas is a part of the ,,Breitkopf Originals series on the occasion of Beethoven's 250th Birthday in 2020. Apart from the established Urtext editions, this reissue opens up a fascinating view on the interpretation- and performance practice of one of the most important Beethoven interpreters in the 19th and 20th century. The Scotsman and his Beethoven - The 32 Piano Sonatas in the Instructive Edition, edited and supplied with fingerings by Frederic Lamond.
