Lin-Manuel Miranda has slowly and surely become a musical theater icon of the modern era. Like Schwartz, Sondheim, Loesser, and Rodgers & Hammerstein, Miranda writes songs that are transcendent, singable, joyous, and worth the price of admission. This medley from show choir veteran Mark Brymer includes some of the most memorable highlights from an illustrious career: In the Heights, How Far I'll Go (from Moana), One More Song (from Vivo), We Don't Talk about Bruno (from Encanto) and My Shot (from Hamilton).

Andy Beck brings his gift for vivid text painting, evocative piano motives, and tuneful melodies to a favorite wintertime poem. Though not a word-for-word setting, the themes of the Elinor Wylie's words are evident from the snow-covered introduction, winding melody, and expressive andante, to the silken harmonic palette and lacy choral layers. Choose this piece with the confidence that it has been carefully constructed to encourage musicality and artistry from any ensemble. Program the eloquent concert and contest work from fall to spring, anytime there might be snow on the ground. We shall walk in velvet shoes . . . under a veil of lace. Carefully placed staccatos and well-chosen chord inversions illuminate the gospel style of this original anthem of hope. It's a perfect pep talk or pick-me-up theme song for whenever your program needs a lift. A solo voice becomes a duet before all the singers join in and grow with intensity. Several ascending key changes raise spirits, ensuring that the uplifting message resonates. Everything will be alright, everything will be okay, 'cause I can see a new horizon on a brand new day. If you don't perform with the kickin' SoundTrax accompaniment, be sure to add a groovin' drummer and riffing organ of your own. We dare you (and your audience) not to clap along!

A warm and richly scored setting of the popular Christmas carol Bring a Torch Jeanette, Isabella, this full sounding arrangement will greatly enrich seasonal programming. Roy Phillippe has employed a broad palette of harmonic and instrumental colors to craft a memorable holiday selection.Bring a Torch is a lovely Christmas carol. Using techniques such as suspensions, re-harmonization and modulations, my goal is to provide an interesting showcase for this familiar melody. the introduction in F major features sustained violins with a pattern of moving eighth notes in the violas and cellos. This pattern recurs throughout the piece. The first statement of the melody is in the first violins. The second violins supply harmonic support along with the viola/cello pattern. Measures 13-29 feature a section of tutti chordal playing. Measure 30 crescendos into the modulation to D major at m. 32. Here, the dynamic is forte, and the viola/cello pattern returns. At m. 40, the violas and cellos have the melody with violin accompaniment. A crescendo begins at m. 44 and builds to fortissimo at m. 48, featuring a modulation to G major. At this point the melody should soar. A descrescendo at m. 60 is followed by a ritard at m. 64. The final four measures are in the original tempo ending on a tutti chord.Careful attention to dynamics, especially in the accompanying parts, will result in a fine performance.

A Basque Carol (also known as Gabriel's Message) originated from the 13th or 14th century. This brilliantly crafted tune is at once hauntingly beautiful, yet warm and joyous. The lasting power of this song is in the craftsmanship of the melody. Its contours are complex and skillful, yet incredibly simple to sing. A Basque Carol's popularity can also be attributed to it's elegant translation into English by Sabine Baring-Gould. While translations often feel blunt or coarse, this one is especially poetic (his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame). In this orchestration, a flowing, cinematic style is combined with rich, thickly-textured string voicings inspired by composer Ralph Vaughn Williams. This graceful arrangement features an obbligato line on solo recorder (optional solo flute or violin). It may be performed by orchestra and soloist alone, or with soprano and alto choir (or S/A soloists). There is even a moment quoted from another favorite holiday carol, Jesu Bambino.
