Bennedetto Carulli (1797-1877) received his training at the Milan Conservatory, graduating in 1816. The next year he was appointed professor at the Conservatory, remaining there until 1873. He was principal clarinet at Milan's La Scala Opera until about 1840, when Cavallini took his place.
