The brass plays primarily an accompaniment role to the singer. However, at the return to the "A" section, the 1st trumpet takes the melody, then the voice re-enters at section "B". The voice part could alternatively be sung by a unison choir of sopranos and/or tenors. If you have a good boy soprano, this could provide a great showcase for his talent, especially if he can hit the high A-flat at the end!
