Giovanni Gabrieli was an Italian composer who lived in the second half of the 16th century who wrote prolifically for the voice. Over 400 years later, his songs are still sung, and many of his compositions were transcribed into instrumental pieces, like this one.

Hodie Christus Natus Est translates to Today Christ is Born.

        Today Christ is born;
        Today the Savior has appeared;
        Today the Angels sing,
        the Archangels rejoice;
        Today the righteous rejoice, saying
        Glory to God in the highest.
        Alleluia!    

This piece is a double choir motet. I would suggest that Choir 1 consist of most of the group, and Choir 2 could be just 1 on a part. Choir 2 is the "angel choir" singing from the heavens.

Scored for 10 parts: Choir 1 = 2 C, 2 alto, and bass flutes. Choir 2 = piccolo and 4 C flutes.

This is a great piece to play at your Christmas recitals.
