The original music was composed by Tomás León and dedicated to his pupil Miss Laura Formento. Tomás León played a leading role in the foundation of the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico and was responsible for the selection of music for the National Anthem. León's work is characterized by a refined melodic character and his salon pieces are among the best examples of its time.
