The title is a reference to St. Francis of Assisi's Canticle of the Sun, an ode to nature. The guitar tuning is rather unusual (e f# c# g b e) and the sonorities naturally contained in it are where the musical material was "found." The piece was premiered by Cassandra Eisenreich and Federico Bonacossa at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, PA.
