NOTES on The Waiting Game

Waiting is hard.

The Waiting Game is a three-movement work for brass quintet depicting three different emotional scenarios one might endure while waiting for something good to happen. The Waiting Game can be applied to various situations in life where there is no control over the timing of an event and one must simply wait for it to unfold.

The first movement, “Anticipation”, the first phase, takes the listener through the ambivalent feelings of both dread and positivity depending on the day. The 2nd movement, “Exaspiration”, is slow and expressive, representing time dragging on. This is the most frustrating period of the waiting process. The final movement, “Jubilation”, is celebratory and depicts a hopeful outcome from all the emotional hardships of waiting.
