This is a hymn that we all learned at a very early age, perhaps in Sunday School, Bible School or Junior Church. It has been with us since 1862. The lyrics were originally written in 1860 as a poem by Anna B. Warner. Then in 1862, the poem was put to music by William Bradbury. This beautiful hymn has withstood the test of time like "Amazing Grace", "The Old Rugged Cross" and so many more.
This arrangement is written for Brass Quintet and has three verses and choruses. The first version closely follows the original harmonic structure without any deviations. The second version utilizes a different harmonic sequence and includes some rhymic changes in a few spots. Finally, the third version again includes a different harmonic sequence, modulates to a different key and contains an extended ending. This wonderful piece can be played as special music for your church service, or offertory.
