Die Grundidee war, verschiedene Kombinationen der drei Instrumente zu verwenden und so ganz unterschiedliche Charaktere und Bewegungsformen zu bekommen, die aber trotzdem insgesamt eine Einheit bilden. So gibt es ein Stück für Cello solo, eines für Violine und Klavier, eines für Violine und Cello etc. Am Anfang, in der Mitte und am Ende stehen verschiedene Varianten eines schnellen Satzes für alle drei Instrumente, die eine Art Refrain bilden.
