For Two Flutes, Oboe, Clarinet, Two Bassoons
By Romeo Cascarino.

The Tow Path (Divertimento for Woodwind Sextet) is a chamber tone poem composed in 1983-1984. As far as can be determined, Cascarino's instrumentation (two flutes, oboe, clarinet, and two bassoons) is unique in the wind chamber music repertoire. The work is cast in a single movement employing a variety of meters and tempi. In a letter to the bassoonist/ conductor Christopher Weait, dated 24 January 1990, Cascarino wrote: The specific tow path I had in mind is located on the Delaware River at New Hope, Pennsylvania.

Although my work has no specific program, the moods and feelings aroused at the various times of day, at this beautiful spot, I hope, have been expressed.

Bassoonist Otto Eifert conducted the first performance of The Tow Path at the College-Conservatory of the University of Cincinnati on 13 November 1984 in Corbett Auditorium with an ensemble of the Conservatory's students.
