By The Carpenters. By John Bettis and Richard Carpenter. Arranged by Matthew Naughtin. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 21 pages. Matthew Naughtin #5219397. Published by Matthew Naughtin (A0.852941).

The inspiration for this song came when Richard Carpenter watched a 1940 Bing Crosby film called Rhythm on the River. The protagonist, a struggling songwriter, kept referring to his greatest composition, "Goodbye to Love" but, as Carpenter said, "You never hear it in the movie, they just keep referring to it." Carpenter's creative imagination supplied the tune and opening lyrics of the mystery song, which was released by the Carpenters in 1972 and went on to become one of their most popular hits. This arrangement for string orchestra includes the full score and all five parts.
