By putting melody on great flute 8' with no volume fluxuation and the left hand constant moving tritone using Gedeckt 8', the organist has to experiment with increasing then decreasing unpredictable and violent volume changes to achieve the realism of a major wind storm. Truly, it will become a bleak mid-winter. I have used it as an offertory last year and will be using it somewhere this Christmas season. The wind storm makes this a very unique piece, not the standard worship service piece. Easy to play as it uses no pedal tones, the challenge is extensive use of the swell pedal for only the accompaniment with flute on great the steady volume. Tune name: Cranham.
