About A Musical Odyssey :
The pieces in Book 1 were selected to acquaint cellists at Suzuki levels 2-4 with fun techniques like slapping the cello, left and right hand pizzicato; and various rhythms: rumba, waltz, huapango, tango... Each piece has an accompanying page of exercises, helping the student to get a good feel for the rhythms.
The repertoire in Book 2 moves beyond the first four positions and is intended for students in Suzuki levels 4-6. Technical challenges include: fast string crossings, the introduction of tenor and treble clefs, thumb position, and asymmetrical rhythms. There are three jazzy pieces to develop a feel of swung eighth notes.
