By Cody Sibley. By John Attey. Arranged by Cody Sibley. Baroque,Classical. Recorder Ensemble. 11 pages. Drachen Music #682822. Published by Drachen Music (A0.1079448).

John Attey was a lutenist and composer of lute music, especially songs referred to as ayres, all of which qualify as English madrigals. The actual dates of his birth and death as well as other details about his life are mostly unknown. He was patronized by Lord John Egerton (1st Earl of Bridgewater) and Countess Frances to whom he dedicates his First Booke of Ayres in 1622. On the title page of this work he calls himself a “Gentleman and Practitioner of Musicke.” Not only is this book of 14 aires John Attey’s crowning achievement; it is also one of the last known published books of lute airs. It is believed he died sometime during the year 1640. This original lute music has been arranged for SATB recorders. This sheet music contains Ayre 05. Shall I Tell You Whom I Love? It is also available as a part of the entire 14-song collection called John Attery's First Book of Ayres for Recorder Quartet.
