SKU: A0.802536

Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. Peet du Toit #5770697. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802536).

Recovering from clinical depression and writer's block after critics derided Rachmaninoff's first symphony (now regarded as a masterpiece) and with the help of hypnotherapy and psychotherapy and the support of his family, he wrote this piano concerto and dedicated it to Nikolai Dahl, who restored Rachmaninoff's self-confidence.

The grand finale of the 3rd movement is captured here for brass quintet. It could be played by an early intermediate quintet and it offers many lessons for them in terms of melody and accompaniment, dueting, support, tempi, chord progression and musicality to name but a few aspects. However, even a professional quintet will make it sound as though we are present in the concert hall during the early 1900's with this majestic theme.
