Thank you so much for your interest in "The Greatest Joy". This is a Christmas children’s musical that I pray will be a blessing to your church or school. Being a children’s music director, I know the struggle with finding something accessible for the group of kids that you have. That is why the casting of this play is flexible if you are working with 8 kids or 58 kids.
There is one constant character, Chloe (if you do not have a girl who can play a lead role, feel free to change the name to Chris and have a boy play the role). The other characters are titled Kid #1, Kid #2, Kid #3, Kid #4, and Kid #5. Each character can be played by a boy or a girl. Each scene can be played by different kids playing Kid 1-5 roles. Or if you do not have many kids in your children’s choir, the same kids can play the roles of Kid 1-5 throughout the whole play. So this play works great no matter the number of different speaking parts needed.
Two of the songs, "Away in a Manger" and "The Greatest Joy" are written as simple SAB choir arrangements if you would like your adult choir to participate. No problem if just the children’s choir will be singing – they can sing the melody throughout in these arrangements. This is just a nice option if you would like to involve the adult as well.
