Here, the tune is mainly on 1st violin - but 2nd violin and viola also share it. With dynamics and articulations carefully added, this is an excellent addition to the Quartet repertoire. Audiences will enjoy and recognize the Baroque/ Irish fusion. It is not difficult and is therefore suitable for a student quartet. Two or three contrasting O Carolan pieces played in succession is an interesting possibility as a concert item.
