Published by Melanie B Guerin (A0.854310).This SATB* choir piece highlights key figures in African-American history, in particular musicians (a play on the jazz slang term "cat"). My hope is that the piece will spark conversations about these important figures among students, teachers, and audience members. Using a work song groove with short overlapping rhythmic motives, the song has limited range and no major technical challenges, but requires rhythmic precision and clear diction.
A separate set of instrumental parts is available (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, vibraphone, double bass, percussion, and drum set) for the arrangement as heard in audio clip.
