Composed by Mica Redden. Classical,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and part. 31 pages. Songburd Music #993436. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1411112).

Honk! presents a unique blend of musical styles that range from son montuno to funk with a light dusting of bossa nova sprinkles. Special attention should be given to differentiating between accented notes (>) and those marked marcato (^). It is important to note that a jazz marcato is stylistically different than those interpreted in more “classical” styles. The jazz marcato is generally punchier, shorter, and made with a lot more “pizzazz” (hold the mozzarella).

The tuba alternates between the roles of a string bass providing a stabilizing, rhythmic foundation and a saxophone floating on top of the “changes” throughout the more quasi-improvised, melodic sections. Serving as a study in ear training and flexibility, Honk! offers rhythmic and harmonic challenges that are sure to thrill any crowd.
