It is circumpolar to the south pole, moving clockwise and contains the southern pole star Sigma Octantis. Compared to its northern counterpart, Ursa Minor, I have taken a similar approach, but move around the circle of fifths in a clockwise direction, use C to represent the pole star in the right hand, and allow the left hand to play the melody as it moves through the keys. “Southpaw” is slang for a left-handed person, and the left hand does most of the playing in this Intermediate Piano Solo. Octans is a navigational instrument, and this constellation is one that Nicolas Louis de Lacaille named.
