Waiting Music by Mary S. Walsh Text by Beth S. Simmons

"Waiting," the second piece within the cantata, Prophecy: A Musical and Dramatic Telling of The Birth of Christ, is a biblical representation of the fears and worries of the ancient world, mirroring many of the frustrations and grievances people experience today with the rise of tyrannical leaders and political turmoil. This anthem for SATB choirs begins with a layering of ostinatos by the treble voices while the bass voices proclaim, "Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength!" The anthem ends in a dramatic canon of "not by might, not by pow'r, but by my spirit saith the lord." This anthem can be performed alone as it is suitable for advent services and concert use.
