"Something Borrowed" begins with a simple melody and chord progression. The harmony gradually becomes more complex. The harmonic tensions create interest and a dynamic atmosphere.
In bar 9, the harmony expands a little more. In bars 13 through 15, the melody achieves the most tension before a return to a familiar consonance in bar 16. The melody reaches its height in bars 17 through 19 before returning to the beginning. The listener is thrown one last curve with the ending that begins in bar 22.
