This work is a bit personal to me as not only did I start my musical journey as a violist, but, it was thru exploration my high school's music cabinet that I first became aware of the string quartet works of Beethoven. I was enamoured especially by the Grosses Fugue -and learned to play each part on my viola. As a composer, I take a more personal view of the genre. Thus, this work exemplifies this thru use of a 5 note motif derived from my first name. The motif appears in each movement and is one of a few motifs that unify the entire 3 movement work.
The work isn't too demanding on the performers. The excerpt audio is the second movement.
