The first movement is primarily monadic in nature with a few instances of duos and one trio passage. The second movement is a scherzo alternating between chordal passages and melodic fragments stretched over time. The third movement is an essay on the varying colors and moods of a single Eb. These Silent Duration pieces are notable for their incorporation of silence as an integral part of the compositional fabric. The duration is 24'40. The work also exists as a quintet for mixed ensemble (Silent Durations II)
