Admiral, there be whales here! This iconic main title theme from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is sure to become an audience favorite at your next concert. The film's main theme, heard in the opening and closing credits includes a six-note statement, introduced as a theme and variations motif. It is a noticeable departure from the bold & brassy fanfares found in other Star Trek projects. The film’s credits music, with its A-B-A format, could easily be mistaken for a concert overture or other orchestra work, rather than movie music. Leonard Rosenman’s score was well-received by critics and audiences, earning him an Academy Award nomination, one of four Oscar nominations for Star Trek IV. Rosenman's memorable score is one of the many elements that makes “the one with the whales” one of the most popular films in the Star Trek canon.
