Composed by Michael Hoppe. Arranged by John O. Sullivan. Easter,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. John O. Sullivan #5822675. Published by John O. Sullivan (A0.961612).

Michael's moving and gentle pleading setting of the Agnus Dei from his Requiem was scored for soprano/tenor duet with long sustained keyboard chords and violin introduction. There is a brief violin rubato interlude before the last 16 vocal measures. At the Molto adagio, the voices plead with a sigh: Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), you take away the sins of the world, dona nobis pacem (grant us peace). In making this SAB arrangement, I added a more complete piano accompaniment and moved the tenor down an octave and changed the intervals between men and women to accommodate a mix of bass and tenor voices (where the bass and tenor vocal ranges overlap). I have used this with my choir during November (month of the Holy Souls in purgatory) as well as during the liturgical season of Lent. It works well as an offertory or communion meditation. It would make a nice addition to a choir or school concert, especially one where the theme is a plea for peace on earth.
