J'moul A. Francis started playing the piano at age 11 with the Trinity Guildhall Music Board until he completed the advanced level exam. With age, comes maturity and competence; thus, he served as the senior pianist of the New Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church in Belmonte, Antigua for nearly a decade. His duties there included managing, supervising, and training other musicians and choristers, along with spearheading and planning music events. He also served as the pianist or organist for most national church conventions for the Seventh-day Adventist Church when called upon to do so.
In 2009, he joined the Potters Youth Group where he served as an Assistant Pianist, Assistant Director, and Adjunct Conductor. His responsibilities included supervising the tenor and bass sections of Potters Youth and Senior choirs. He also advised the Chairperson on the selection of the group's repertoire and transcribed pieces for the choir.
Most recently, he was appointed as the Organist of the St. Luke Anglican Church, Bendals, Antigua where he served full-time between 2013-2014 and continues to serve part-time (during the summer holidays from university). He was also a sub-organist for other churches within the Anglican Communion in Antigua to include the St. John's Cathedral of the Divine, St. Lucy Anglican Church, and the St. Boniface Anglican Church.
Mr Francis' musical experience led him to co-found the South-Leeward Mission Youth Choir (SLMYC) where he was the Deputy Chairman, Deputy Conductor, and Principal Pianist. The South Leeward Mission Youth Choir was a group of talented Seventh-Day Adventists in Antigua and Barbuda involved in the ministry of singing and vocal development. His duties included managing the choir's repertoire, (re)arranging pieces, vocal training, and supervising the choir's administration.
Being a classical music lover, he draws on influences from a number of composers and conductors such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Johann Sebastian Bach, Janácek Leoš, Stephen Cleobury, John Rutter, Sir Hubert Parry, Kenneth Leighton, et al. Moreover, he draws on support and guidance from friends and mentors who are eminent musicians and composers in their own right such as Philip Herbert, Winston Bailey OM, Dr George Roberts, and Wilmeade Price. According to Mr Francis, Philip Herbert had one of the most profound influences on his approach to music while he was in the United Kingdom in 2011.
Mr Francis aims to transcribe, edit, arrange, and compose pieces, and to share them with the world. This is a task that he enjoys, and he hopes to complete some projects that will be beneficial to preserving the musical culture of Antigua and Barbuda on the music score. (Hide extended text) ...
