Cherry blossom is a japanese traditional song (Sakura
sakura) primarily played on shakuhachi (bamboo flute).
During World War II, the sakura being an enduring
metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life, was used to
motivate the Japanese pilots. They would paint them on
the sides of their suicide planes. Their souls were
reincarnated in the blossoms.
