With the new Urtext Primo series, the Wiener Urtext Edition wants to close the gap arising at the point of transition to additional lessons after having studied a piano method. Beginning with a performance level which is outlined by pieces such as Bach's Minuet in G (BWV Anh. 116), Mozart's Minuet in F (KV 5) or Schumann's Wilder Reiter (Op. 68/8), works by three different composers are selected for each volume of the Urtext Primo series, with the aim of offering piano pupils (or even adults who want to resume piano playing) a wide range of repertoire pieces on the basis of which they can enhance their technical and musical skills. The pieces' range of levels of difficulty is relatively narrow so that the volume can be used continuously over a period of about two years. This is what distinguishes the Urtext Primo approach from almost all common anthologies. The selected repertoire takes into account not only pieces of the classic canon of lessons, but also lesser known works which are in no way of less importance for piano lessons. The Urtext Primo volumes are published in the internationally recognised standard of the Wiener Urtext editions. The explanations included in each volume shall help to deepen the knowledge of musical styles, music history and piano playing. A repertoire chart at the end of each volume gives a rough overview of the levels of difficulty of the selected pieces.Volume 4 combines works of the German Romanticism by Schumann, Brahms and Theodor Kirchner. Apart from well known pieces from Schumann's 'Album for the Youth' and the easiest waltzes from opus 39 (in the easier version) by Brahms, the selection contains the attractive set of variations from Schumann's first Youth Sonata Op. 118/1 and Brahms' Saraband in A minor WoO 5/1 as well as a number of pleasant pieces by Theodor Kirchner which continue the tonal air of Schumann and Brahms in easy playable pieces. / Piano

To this day Theodor Kirchner (1823 1904) has failed to gain the recognition he deserves. A friend of Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann the artist has been labelled a mere follower of Schumann. His demanding yet never superficially virtuosic music for piano displays an highly individual range of tender lyrical sentiments. Kirchner's writing already hints at the approaching revolution of High and Late Romantik thus pointing in the direction of Scriabin and Max Reger (the latter greatly idolized by Kirchner).

In addition to Bärenreiter's scholarly-critical editions of Brahms' trios, an arrangement of Brahms' String Sextet op. 18 for piano trio by his contemporary and friend Theodor Kirchner is now being published. Simrock, Brahms' publisher, issued it in 1883. Brahms responded to the arrangement of his sextet with total enthusiasm and praise for the skills of his friend Kirchner (1823-1903).Christopher Hogwood's scholarly-critical edition includes an introduction which sheds light not just on the history of the arrangement and its validity in its own right, but also on Kirchner and his relationship to Brahms.- A much welcomed edition to the piano trio literature- Includes an informative introduction (Eng/Ger) and a Critical Commentary (Eng) / Violon, Violoncelle Et Piano

Kirchner a volatile seeker after truth became as a composer a master of transient visions. His importance lies in his piano music. His work com-prises about a thousand individual pieces. Schumann his revered and adored friend proved initially to be an overpowering idol and Kirchner gave his works titles like ?Neue Davidsbündlertänze? ?Neue Kinderscener?. Subsequently other highly idiosyncratic titles reveal more about the special characteristics of his own style. ?Federzeichnungen? (Pen and Ink Sketches) and ?Im Zwielicht? (In the Gloaming) point to a life between two worlds and show a fragility which gives Kirchner?s works their own particular charm. Thetwo volumes of the ?Neue Albumblätter? (New Albumleaves) are witness to this fragile world. These transient sketches move in the lower dynamic range. Modulations shifting chords and enharmonic changes lead the listener astray; formal expectations are disappointed. Our edition is based on the original two volumes published by Augener in 1880 and reissued by Schott in 1911 under a new title.

Easy Piano Pieces about Water with the Keyboard Crocodile-Learn 25 easy Piano pieces on the theme of water with the help of 'Splash' the beloved Keyboard crocodile. In this repertoire book by Karin Daxböck Splash has finally made it back to his original habitat. Obviously the friendly reptile only feels truly happy amidst original Piano literature and you'll be amazed to see how many gently flowing or wildly cascading pieces have been produced over the past two centuries. In Splash! Easy Piano Pieces About Water you'll find pieces by masters such as Czerny Schumann Gurlitt and Theodor Kirchner; some white-water pieces from William Gillock and Mike Schoenmehl; and with the LittleAtlantic Rhapsody an ocean breeze will sweep through every Piano lesson. Do not worry if you're afraid of water however since Splash is also ideal for non-swimmers. The pieces are generally a bit more demanding than those in the 'Horses' book (EB 8780) but this definitely need not dampen anyone's enthusiasm. With this book learning the Piano will go swimmingly.

26 pieces in all major and minor keys (pentatonic melody)-The popularity of Cornelius Gurlitt's (1820-1901) varied and abundant piano œuvre certainly inspired by his work as a music teacher is undiminished until today and still of great educational significance in music lessons. The musical language of his four-handed piano miniatures is very similar to that of the compositions by Carl Reinecke and Theodor Kirchner. 'Hours of rest' was published for the first time by Schott in 1880 and shall now be made accessible again for music lessons with this new edition. The miniatures have a simple yet effective structure are arranged in an educationally sensible way and have an expressive tonal language containing cantabile folk-song-like dance-like expressive and chorale-like elements. Everything that makes beginner's lessons sensible and systematic is dealt with in these 26 varied miniatures; in particular the pupils are made familiar with all major and minor modes. As in Diabelli's famous 'Melodious Exercises' the primo part is played within the pentatonic scale thus being perfect for beginners. The demands for the secondo player are somewhat higher. A valuable addition to the piano duet repertoire.

Keep the old but be generous with new. Fundamentally the editor of the New Sonatina Book has followed this principle. Therefore in the book are found sonatas for children which are almost classical as well as other works which have long been used successfully in teaching the piano but which are not found in previous collections such as for example the Vienna Sonatinas of Mozart which acquired fame so quickly in the new Schott edition the charming Spring Sonatina by Handrock some melodious compositions of Theodor Kirchner and as a contemporary work Gretchaninoff's Sonatina which has proved itself as a splendid display pieces for pupils' concerts. The collection isas far as possible arranged in order of difficulty but as frequently different movements of a work demand different levels of technique a completely logical sequence was not possible particularly as the individual talent of the pupil plays an important part. In order to acquaint pupils with polyphonic music some easy pieces by Handel Telemann Krebs and Max Reger (Canons) have been included. Kuhlau's Allegro from Sonatina in C is included in ARBSM Piano Grade 4 syllabus 2017-2018 as an alternative piece.
