The clarinet method op. 63 by Carl Baermann from 1867 is still a standard work in classical clarinet education today. The thoroughly revised new edition aims at reviewing the educational concept, which is still valid today, for modern lessons, adjusting the music and texts, and sensibly complementing the teaching contents.The editor who draws on many years of experience as a clarinettist in an orchestra and university lecturer of clarinet has succeeded in adapting the valuable teaching material to the requirements of today while maintaining the basic methodology. The content of the text and the performance directions of the original were linguistically modernized and occasionally extended by further ideas from the teaching practice, such as concepts for warming up, breathing exercises, literature suggestions or tips for daily practising. Further additions of scale and triad studies in all major and minor keys make this method a comprehensive and thorough work of study which not only serves as teaching material for young and adult beginners, but is also a valuable compendium of scale exercises and studies for advanced musicians and is ideal for training velocity and dexterity.The Clarinet Method Vols. 1 and 2 contain not only scales and technical fingering exercises but also Baermann's popular performance pieces, like Romanze (No. 14), which are ideal as performance pieces, yet at the same time train both technique and musical expressiveness. Spanish clarinettist composer and teacher Antonio Romero y Andia was born in 1815 in Madrid. He made his debut at 14 and later became solo clarinettist and music director of the Royal Court Orchestra. He is now remembered primarily for the Clarinet key system that bears his name as his compositional works though high quality were few in number. From 1849-1876 Romero was the Clarinet Professor at the Madrid Conservatory where he wrote several his Complete Clarinet Method. Over 150 years later it is still in popular use by schools and conservatories all over the world.

Work for Clarinet solo. The composer writes 'The title refers to several levels in the piece. Partly a method I have used where three lines are weaved so they become one line here the clarinet which can (nearly) only play one tone at the time. Either the three parts disappear and become one waving melodic line as in the beginning of the piece. Or they are put in different registers of the clarinet so they are heard as separate lines weaving into one another. On a different level there is three different sequences which are also weaved into one another; one which rises (for instance in the beginning) and one which falls and one which falls in parallels in severalregisters. These three sequences become faster and faster every time they reappear. The idea of weaving melodic lines was inspired by Bach’s pieces for solo strings where he in a marvellous way established several simultaneous melodic lines without simultaneous sounding notes. This happened by weaving parts which in other works would sound simultaneously into one another so that only one note was heard at the time. This meant that in that long line which was heard as the instrument’s development of the piece other melodies were weaving around each other with different focuses.
