This product includes also the solo part edited by Kalen Smith.The composer tells about the three-movement work: The concerto is in three movements. After the orchestral introduction, the harp leads into a gradually thickening texture that progresses into a series of powerful culminations. Once these subside, the expansive motifs of the introduction return. The solo is echoed by two harps in the orchestra: I wanted the magnificent sound to be multiplied. The simple melody in the second movement is coloured in a very archaic way by the orchestra; we might imagine the performance of a troubadour or a bard in ancient times. The finale is festive, 'solenne'. October 1928 � 27. July 2016) is internationally one of the best known and most frequently performed Finnish composers. Despite Rautavaara�s label of mysticism he was a complex and contradictory figure whose works cannot be categorized in stylistic terms.

Ton Koopman's new edition of all 16 organ concertos by Handel has drawn to a close. The quality of this edition has been highly praised from all quarters. Source-critical responsibility goes hand in hand with a high level of performance practice when Koopman provides interpretative tips for the ad libitum passages in the organ part without restricting the creativity of the interpreter who is interested in stylistic matters and prefers to work out his own solutions.The popular Concerto Op. 4 No. 6 in B flat major was originally a harp concerto (and is thus called Concerto per la Harpa in the autograph) and was performed in this version at its premiere in 1736, when it was inserted into Handel's oratorio Alexander's Feast in order to illustrate the harp playing of the Greek singer Timotheus. A harp edition is also in preparation.I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote. Nevertheless, there are occasional performance suggestions in small print which are elucidated in the Critical Commentary. Especially note-worthy is the clear printing, extensive preface and detailed Critical Notes. Handel composed the Concerto for Harp, two recorders, strings and basso continuo for the premiere of his ode Alexander's Feast (as an illustration of Timotheus, the ancient poet who played the lyre). He later performed it himself as an organ concerto. The fine sonorous effects (use of mutes, pizzicato, recorders), which last but not least made the work famous, are also shown in the version for organ to the best advantage. For the first time the new edition is based solely on the autograph score which, according to the latest findings, renders the only reliable source. In addition, the basso continuo part presents the figuration of the first edition, which is of interest for historical performance practice. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5529400.

Mozart excitedly reported to his father that the Comte de Guines played the flute incomparably, while his daughter was magnifique at the harp. He apparently had no reservations about writing a double concerto for this unusual scoring in Paris in 1778 and even though he had just admitted to his father that he couldnt stand the flute. It is surprising, then, that Mozart produced a singular, fairly easily performable work. Could it be that he exaggerated their technical abilities for some reason or other when he described his patrons to his father?The source situation is clear: An autograph has survived which is definitive in every respect, and can be incontestably included in a modern Urtext edition, down to the distinction between staccato dots and dashes.Cadenzas in the piano reduction by Robert D. The unbroken popularity of Vanhal's sole double bass concerto in competitions and for practice and concert purposes is reason enough for us to publish the work in Breitkopf Urtext. The edition profits from Tobias Glockler's experience of many years. As with the other great double-bass concertos of the classical Viennese repertoire (Dittersdorf, Hoffmeister), Glockler arrives at convincing solutions. He began by filtering out a solid musical text from the source (which was not always free of contradictions) that was supplied with many additions. The disposition of the solo part required detailed knowledge of performance practice, since the work was written in the historical Viennese double bass tuning, and a few passages cannot be played without difficulty on a modern instrument. As with Dittersdorf and Hoffmeister, the piano reduction makes it possible to use three different double-bass tunings (solo, orchestral and Viennese). Moreover, it contains the editor's virtuoso cadenzas as well.I have performed the Vanhal in Viennese tuning and it was my thesis topic so I am thrilled to see an edition that makes this tuning so accessible.
