Latin -
German. Deeply
moved by his first visit
to the city of Jerusalem
with its seven gates,
Krzysztof Penderecki
composed this major vocal
work to celebrate the
city's 3,000th
anniversary in 1995. Two
years later, it was
premiered as Symphony No.
7 in which the magic
number seven has a
special meaning: From the
seven movements
representing the seven
gates to the seven
powerful fortissimo
chords concluding the
oratorio, the biblical
number runs through the
entire work.

Goes. Bach's first
cantata for the election
of the Leipzig town
council, composed in
August 1723, is one of
his most splendidly
scored work from his
Leipzig period. The
choice of opening, with
the representative form
of a French overture, was
suited to a festive
orchestral scoring. Two
choral movements frame a
middle section which
consists of two arias and
a recitativo accompagnato
with a trumpet
ritornello. The
conclusion of this
extended festive music
takes a reflective turn
in movements 8 and 9,
when Bach allows a
recitative to be followed
by simple, prayer-like
chorale movement. Score

inches. Here is a
new major work for Spring
programming, based on
early American folk songs
and hymns. Sacred Places
explores the story of
Christ's ministry,
passion and resurrection,
all emphasizing the
locations where these
great moments occurred:
The Sea of Galilee, The
Wedding at Cana, The
Sermon on the Mount,
Jerusalem, The Upper

Resurrection. With
poignant narrations and
scripture, along with the

German. Ich
beschwore euch, ihr
Tochter zu Jerusalem
belongs to the genre of
dialog compositions which
were extremely popular in
Protestant Germany in the
17th century because of
their lively portrayal of
biblical texts. Schutz
set verses from the Song
of Solomon; here, a high
voice choir of four
sopranos sings the words
of Shulamite, and a
three-part low voice
choir represents the
Daughters of Jerusalem;
the two join together
only at the end of the
piece. In the high voice
choir two of the four
sopranos can be replaced
by two violins. An
exceptional piece for
choirs with good soprano
voices or
soloists.

edition taken from Vol.
19 of the Stuttgart

Edition Carus

German. Ich
beschwore euch, ihr
Tochter zu Jerusalem
belongs to the genre of
dialog compositions which
were extremely popular in
Protestant Germany in the
17th century because of
their lively portrayal of
biblical texts. Schutz
set verses from the Song
of Solomon; here, a high
voice choir of four
sopranos sings the words
of Shulamite, and a
three-part low voice
choir represents the
Daughters of Jerusalem;
the two join together
only at the end of the
piece. In the high voice
choir two of the four
sopranos can be replaced
by two violins. An
exceptional piece for
choirs with good soprano
voices or
soloists.

inches. Here is a
new major work for Spring
programming, based on
early American folk songs
and hymns. Sacred Places
explores the story of
Christ's ministry,
passion and resurrection,
all emphasizing the
locations where these
great moments occurred:
The Sea of Galilee, The
Wedding at Cana, The
Sermon on the Mount,
Jerusalem, The Upper
Room, The Garden of
Gethsemane, Calvary and
the Garden of
Resurrection. With
poignant narrations and
scripture, along with the
creative orchestrations
by Brant Adams, this is a
memorable telling of the
life of Christ. Two
distinct endings are
provided, allowing for a
presentation during Holy
Week that ends with the
crucifixion, or an Easter
moment that concludes
with a joyful affirmation
of life. Songs include:
Prelude; Songs from the
River; Come and Hear the
Wondrous Story; My Song
in the Night; Lift Up
Your Heads, Jerusalem;
The Remembering; The
Midnight Garden; A Green
Hill Far Away; Sunrise;

Albrecht
Goes. Bach's first
cantata for the election
of the Leipzig town
council, composed in
August 1723, is one of
his most splendidly
scored work from his
Leipzig period. The
choice of opening, with
the representative form
of a French overture, was
suited to a festive
orchestral scoring. Two
choral movements frame a
middle section which
consists of two arias and
a recitativo accompagnato
with a trumpet
ritornello. The
conclusion of this
extended festive music
takes a reflective turn
in movements 8 and 9,
when Bach allows a
recitative to be followed
by simple, prayer-like
chorale movement. Score

inches. Wayne Wold
wrote the poetry of this
dramatic and stirring
anthem while visiting the
Holy Land and musically
captures all the emotion
of the Passion story with
intense and colorful text
painting. Written in four
sections that reflect on
Jerusalem, Gethsemane,
the upper room, and
Golgotha, each section
concludes with the
refrain, O Jerusalem . .
. While the score is more
advanced with dissonant
and chromatic writing,
the reoccurring motifs
and refrains will aid the
learning process.
Consider singing each
section as a response to
the corresponding Bible
verses as the Passion
narrative is read.
