This notable new work for strings, by contemporary American master Norman Dello Joio, is a wonderful addition to the string quartet repertoire. The interludes, which vary greatly in tempo and texture, are based on a folk tune of Russian origin, which is introduced in the first interlude. Lyrical Interludes is a challenging work, but not so difficult that it cannot be attempted by college groups and any serious amateur chamber music players.

“Bein g an unusual composer of his day, Ibert did not attach himself to any of the predominant genres of music of the time. Described as elicit, the composer's Deux Interludes for Flute, Violin and Harpsichord is pleasantly unusual in instrumentation, creating a worthy addition to the classical music repertoire. Ibert stands out as a composer who tackled all styles with equal success, his Deux Interludes for Flute, Violin and Harpsichord being no exception. With clear, separate parts, this edition is a must buy for aspiring musicians seeking to expand their repertoire.â€.

Two Lyric Interludes was written by Henry Brant, America's foremost composer of acoustic spatial music. They were first performed by the Columbia Broadcasting co. Symphony on December 13, 1941, conducted by Howard Barlow. Requiem is a solemn, slow interlude, while Idyll has more of a dreamy quality.

for counter-tenor, clarinet in A, and 16-part SATB choir The piece sets extracts from the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus , and is made up of six choral movements, including a substantial solo role for countertenor. Between these movements come five interludes for solo clarinet. Wittgenstein himself played the instrument, so here is a different projection of aspects of the philosopher. The countertenor's part may be sung in English or German.

This small suite of three solo pieces was written for violist Deborah Lander, a member of the Sydney Alpha Ensemble, which recorded Kats-Chernin's first portrait CD Clocks for ABC Classics in 1997. The first piece turns out to be a “classical†ragtime in which theabsence of the accompanying piano with its chords and alternating basses is never noticed. The second piece on the open D string flows meditatively in quiet triple time. The third piece is a solo variation of Elena Kats-Chernin's big “hitâ€, the beautiful Eliza Aria from her ballet Wild Swans. The three interludes can be included in a programme individually or together, in any order.
