Par COLERIDGE-TAYLOR SAMUEL. Danse Nègre, from the African Suite by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, arranged for flute choir by Paige Dashner Long. Coleridge spent his childhood in Croydon, Surrey, England, where he studied violin with his grandfather and also sang in the church choir. At 15, he was accepted to the Royal College of Music, where during his second year, he changed his major from violin to composition. At the age of 20, he met the African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, who encouraged him to focus on his African heritage. As a result, Coleridge composed his African Suite for piano in 1898, each of the four movements depicting different African experiences. / Date parution : 2022-11-29/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Flûtes

The Suite Hébraïque draws on traditional Jewish sources such as the sound of the shofar's call as Bloch explored his Judaic heritage. The first movement is forceful with barely repressed emotion. A march rhythm and a passionate theme from the viola characterize the second movement titled Processional. The finale Affirmation opens and closes with a full-throated theme over a dance-like lilting rhythm framing a sweet graceful central section. Includes parts for Viola and Violin.

Traditional Scottish and Irish tunes were transformed by the African rhythms of banjo players which in turninfluenced popular music and led to ragtime jazz and blues. The amount of folk music in America is staggering. The nineteenth century gave birth to many unique American styles and its songs are an important part of our musicalheritage. Even today quite a few of the tunes in this collection will seem very familiar. Written primarily in standard notation the exceptions being those tunes in altered tunings which logically appear in tablature only.

Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) was a Danish musician often seen as his country’s greatest composer who now occupies a distinguished platform in the national and cultural heritage of his native land. The Carl Nielsen Edition is an independent project which aims to publish all of his finished works in the last version approved by the composer. Each piece has an introduction which tells the story behind the work and its place in his oeuvre and a critical commentary which gives an account of the source material and any editorial changes both given in the same volume as the music. Arr.Collatti Diego. Par GARDEL CARLOS. The name of Carlos Gardel is synonymous with the Tango - his compositions in the genre have long been considered classics. Universal Edition's popular series of arrangements by Diego Collatti is expanded by this new edition for two recorders, expertly edited by the Austrian virtuoso, Thomas List. They can be played on two alto recorders, or alto and tenor, and are for intermediate to advanced players. Recorders might seem an unlikely voicing for this music but, on the contrary, Collatti believes they are exceptionally well suited to reflecting the glamour and fascination of the tango. Indeed, they could evoke the sound of the South American panpipes, not too far removed from the Argentinean heritage of the tango. From the preface: The aim of the publication of these four-handed piano compositions is to fill a void within the sphere of sight-reading(and almost sight-reading) at the beginner and intermediate level. These three volumes together contain 36 Nordic folk songs from Denmark Norway Sweden Finland and theFaroe Islands. The selection is based first and foremost on their being well suited to the instrumental expressivepossibilities of the piano and being good representatives of the rich and atmospheric Nordic musical heritage.When one practises sight-reading on one’s own it is tempting to stop as onegoes along because the desire to playthe correct notes is often given priority at the expense of the rhythm and expression.Music without an organic pulse will leave the player with an unsatisfactory feeling of stress and failure and thestream of thought will not form part of a natural flow. Good sight-reading training is therefore ensemble playing where the teacher supports the pulse and rhythm.In many other publications of four-handed duets the secundo part is written in two bass clefs and the primo part in twotreble clefs. Reading this untrained combination of clefs along with the stressful fact that the music has never beenseen nor heard before can confuse the pupil.In volumes 1 and 2 the secundo part which is intended for the pupil is therefore notated in a treble clef and bassclef as piano music for two hands is usually notated. In volume 3 the degree of difficulty is more varied but in mostof the pieces improvisation is an interposed element in the primo part being therefore a good challenge for the pupil.In the improvisatory sections a chord or a scale is notated.
