Citadel s Destiny is a march that can be performed either in concert or on parade. It was commissioned by the Musique de l’Infanterie de Lille. A special feature is that it adheres to the conventional codes of military marches, albeit with a modern twist. The title refers to the citadel built by Vauban in Lille, “The Queen of Citadels”, with which the band shares a destiny. This march is still performed by the Infantry Band as part of their traditional concert repertoire.Cit adel’s Destiny kan dienen als loopmars, maar is ook geschikt voor een concert. Opening with a heroic fanfare, this stunning original composition was inspired by the 15th century Inca citadel Machu Picchu and specifically the Intihuatana stone in what is now southeastern Peru where sun worship was favored. Many historians have come to refer to the Inca Empire as Children of the Sun. The work continues with an intense, almost frenzied, component that sets the stage for an active interplay of contrasting themes featuring a melodic statement interrupted by accented percussive statements. A pensive and lush moment builds with strong percussion contribution to a bold and satisfying conclusion. (4:45).
