As a work commissioned by Ensemble Reconsil taking South Africa as its theme, this composition conjures up a fantasy landscape by means of its symbolic musical language, its timbres and its quotations from the music of the country’s original, inhabitants as well as that of European newcomers. In the middle stands the ‘Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park’; the establishment of this park of peace has the aim of creating a harmonious, balanced relationship between humans, animals and nature.

This fantasy tells the story of Oregon, one of Americas north-western states. Traveling by train on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the listener is taken through the fascinating Oregon landscape. Indians, cowboys, golddiggers and hooded wagons willfile past on this adventurous journey. The piece has some similarities with a soundtrack of a movie. Various melodies, which could be the main themes of a movie, pass the review.The piece begins in a slow movement, introducing the first theme inminor. Then we hear in the following fast movement the trombones imitate the train, whistling the steam-flute. We hear the characteristic minor theme again, but now in different variants(also in major). The rythmic structure of western stile androck succeed each other. This is leading to the slow movement, where the signals of horns and trumpets introduce a wonderful vocal melody. After this characteristic melody, the fast movement appears shortly again, the trombones whistling thesteam-flute again (now in major). We hear also some musical elements, that plays a part in the following Presto. Barchanges, jazzy chords, interesting rhytmic patterns (with bongo) and an original theme are the characteristics of this Presto. Afterthis, the horns announce the last section of the piece. Interesting is the fact that we hear in this Allegro section a variant of the vocal melody in the slow movement. Also the Presto theme returns shortly, followed by the Allargando, which is agrand characteristic end of a soundtrack. The movie of our travelling fantasy has come to an end.

Deze fantasie vertelt het verhaal van Oregon, een van de noordwestelijke staten van Amerika. Een treinreis over de Northern Pacific Railroad voert de luisteraar mee door het boeiende landschap van Oregon. Tijdens deze avontuurlijke reis isdromen over een ver verleden onvermijdelijk. Indianen, cowboys, goudzoekers en huifkarren met paarden ervoor passeren hierbij de revue. Het werk heeft overeenkomsten met de soundtrack van een film.

In Oregon entführt Sie Jacob de Haan auf eine abenteuerliche Zugfahrt durch die faszinierende Landschaft einer der nordwestlichen Staaten Amerikas. Ein langsames Thema in Moll, gepaart mit Variationen in Western- und Rockrhythmen undmelodiösen Passagen sind nur einige der Elemente, die diese Reise so spannend und abwechslungsreich gestalten.

This suite with a four-part instrumentation is comprised of three cheerful, imaginative movements: firstly Yellow Duck Shuffle, a bluesy, swinging section; next comes Purple Panda Polka, a lively, modern polka in which a funny dancing pair of pandas take centre stage; and finally the third movement entitled Pink Donkey Boogie is a gentle boogie-woogie. The musical motifs are played in all four parts giving every instrumentalist a chance to take the lead.

Deze vierstemmige suite bestaat uit drie vrolijke delen die stuk voor stuk tot de verbeelding spreken. De Yellow Duck Shuffle is een swingend, bluesachtig deel waarin het ritmische gekwaak van een jong eendje te horen is. De Purple Panda Polka is een snelle, moderne polka waarin een grappige paarse pandabeer al dansend de hoofdrol speelt. Het derde deel, Pink Donkey Boogie, is een rustige boogiewoogie met als terugkerend motief het herkenbare ‘ia’ van een swingende ezel. In de gehele suite lopen de melodische thema’s door alle vier de stemmen heen, zodat elke partij op haar beurt de boventoon voert.

Diese vierstimmige Suite besteht aus drei fröhlichen, fantasieanregenden Sätzen: Auf den Yellow Duck Shuffle, einen swingender, bluesartigen Satz, folgt die Purple Panda Polka, eine flotte, moderne Polka, in der ein drolliges, tanzendes Panda-Pärchen die Hauptrolle spielt. Der dritte Satz mit dem Titel Pink Donkey Boogie ist ein ruhiger Boogie Woogie. Die musikalischen Themen wechseln durch alle vier Stimmen durch, sodass jede Stimme einmal führen darf.

Cette suite en quatre parties se compose de trois phrases pétillantes de fantaisie. Yellow Duck Shuffle propose un motif oscillant entre le blues et le swing. Purple Panda Polka offre une moderne polka qui permettra un drôle de couple de pandas d’évoluer sur la piste de danse. Enfin, Pink Donkey Boogie, troisième et dernier mouvement, ramène le calme au coeur de la joyeuse troupe avec un thème boogie woogie résolument modéré. Cette charmante suite a été composée afin de mettre l’ensemble des pupitres de votre orchestre en valeur, car chacun aura, son tour, la possibilité de jouer le thème principal.

Yellow Duck Shuffle, un movimento in stile swing e blues, e una polka molto moderna (Purple Panda Polka), sono i primi due movimenti di questa suite gioiosa, perfetta per stimolare la fantasia. Il terzo movimento, Pink Donkey Boogie è un tranquillo boogie woogie. I temi musicali sono presenti in tutte quattro le voci previste in questo brano, così da permettere a tutto l’organico di esibirsi come solista.
