The edition 'Mein erstes Konzert' [My First Concert] contains 22 easy pieces for lessons, first recitals or pupils' competitions. This volume takes the player on a musical journey through five epochs - from the Renaissance era via the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras to contemporary music. A special highlight is the large number of pieces of popular music, including motivating pieces from the areas of pop music, jazz, spiritual, bossa nova and tango most of which have been specially composed for this volume. Most works can be played after two years of lessons already - all pieces are in the first position and can be played in the four fingering patterns. To two compositions requiring position playing, an easier alternative has been added. Fingerings for position playing can of course be entered in the pieces by the teacher to improve the tonal result. / Violon Et Piano

Par LEIVISKA HELVI. Finnish composer Helvi Leiviskä (1902-1982) created a broad-based output of orchestral works, solo songs and chamber music. Her style could be described as moderate modernism, deriving influences from multiple sources such as late Romanticism, Symbolism, Expressionism, Existentialism and Neo-Classicism. Leiviskä's output is characterised by philosophical and religious themes, images of nature and narrative structures. Many of her works focus on human existential angst and spiritual searching and growth. Helvi Leiviskä originally completed her Piano Quartet in A major op. 1 in 1926 but revised it a decade later, in 1935. Written for the traditional piano quartet lineup (violin, viola, cello and piano), the work is in three movements and has a duration of about 25 minutes. It features religious and ecstatic imagery such as may be found in French, German or Russian neo-Romantic styles. Leiviskä's Piano Quartet is considered one of the cornerstones of her chamber music output. Its early version was premiered in two parts at student recitals of the Helsinki Music Institute (the 1st movement in 1925 and the 2nd and 3rd movements in 1926). The revised version was performed in full by Timo Mikkilä (piano), Sulo Aro (violin), Ilmo Ranta (viola) and Pentti Rautawaara (cello) on Finnish radio in 1939. The work was also on the programme of Leiviskä's second composition concert in 1945, being performed on that occasion by Jussi Jalas (piano), Erik Cronvall (violin), Erik Karma (viola) and Yrjö Selin (cello). Two commercial recordings have been released (Finlandia Classics 2012 and Telos Music 2016). It is published for the first time 2022 with an extensive foreword by Susanna Välimäki. The product includes the full score (piano part) and a set of string parts. Duration: c. 25'. Have a look inside by clicking 'sample'. / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Répertoire / Quatuor avec Piano

8 Twentieth-Century Pieces. Having touched on the romantic era in 'To a Wild Rose' and the classical era in 'An die Musik', Kember moves forward to the twentieth-century with this thoughtfully chosen collection for string quartet. The Schott String Quartet Series With the first books in the series focusing on baroque, classical and romantic styles, The Schott String Quartet Series has expanded to cover music ranging from traditional pieces through to Eastern-influenced works. Aside from 'Indian Summer', which features original compositions, each book contains original arrangements of well known themes, which have often never been arranged for string quartet before. An important characteristic of these arrangements is that they allow all four instruments to demand the attention throughout the music. The pieces are suitable for amateur musicians or school students and are ideal for public performance./ Recueil / Quatuor à Cordes

Music Minus One Violin-This album contains two of the Romantic Era's neglected treasures. Henryk Wieniawski though little known today was a potent figure in the 19th century an almost unparalleled virtuoso violinist and a respected composer. His D minor concerto op. 22 was premiered in St. Petersburg in 1862 and is a Romantic-era treasure. Pablo de Sarasate's 'Zigeunerweisen' ('Gypsy ways') is a wonderful fantasia on Romany themes composed in 1878. Both of these concerti are wonderful and often overlooked. But take our advice and discover them - they will not disappoint! Contains a printed score and a compact disc featuring both concerti in split-channel stereo with the violinist on the rightchannel then again in a stereo accompaniment version minus the solo violin part. Performed by Geoffrey Applegate violin Accompaniment: Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra Conductor: Emil Kahn

Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Felix Konzert für Violine und Orchester e-Moll op. 64 erste Fassung 1844 Edition no.BA 9099-92 ISMN 9790006565733 Editor Todd, R. Larry / Brown, Clive Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première; the 'child prodigy' Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Léonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Léonard. The letter informs us that the composer invited Léonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Léonard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how Léonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Léonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn's approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter's correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Léonard's playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice. - New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs - Revised Urtext edition - With a separate booklet on performance practice (Eng/Ger)

E Minor Op. 64. Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. Mendelssohn?s Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the premiere - the ?child prodigy? Joseph Joachim - and Hubert Leonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Leonard. The letter informs us that the composer invited Leonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David - now we know that he also gave some to Leonard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how Leonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Brahms composed his ?Violin Sonata In D Minor? during the summer of 1886. The work quickly became part of the standard repertoire and has remained so until today. It is presented here in a fine Bärenreiter Urtext edition and comes with an unmarked Urtext part as well as a second part marked with fingering and bowing by Clive Brown which are based on the practices of Brahms? contemporaries. An important part of this edition is the extensive preface. Firstly it informs about the works? origins its compositional process pre-publication performances its publication history as well as early reception. Truly remarkable is theunique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors take the premise that already a few decades after Brahms? death a widening gulf developed between the composer?s expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. In a very concrete and practical way the editors summarize some of the key issues in understanding Brahms? notation with regard to rhythm and timing dynamics and accentuation dots and strokes slurring and non legato Piano pedalling and overholding Piano arpeggiation and dislocation string instrument fingering string instrument harmonics and vibrato. In this way the edition offers an exciting and often surprising insight in Romantic musical interpretation.A pioneering Urtext edition. With an unmarked Urtext part. With a second part including fingering and bowing based on the practices of Joseph Joachim and other contemporaries of Brahms. With an extensive Performance Practice Commentary. For further information on Romantic performance practice we recommend: ?Performance Practices in Johannes Brahms? 2-CD Set-Performed by Anna Reider violin Accompaniment: Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Nayden Todorov The great composer/virtuoso Henryk Wieniawski wrote this concerto in 1853 at the age of 18. But it reflects an astounding musical maturity. In particular this concerto features a grand theatrical air with plenty of pathos and poetry and magnificent multiple-stopping for the solo instrument. This was a common part of the repertoire until his own second concerto supplanted it. Conventional only in its form it is extremely innovative in its musical and technical materials with a beautiful and heroic main theme. The second movement a short Larghetto is a simple yetexquisite musical prayer demanding exquisite musical tone. The Rondo movement is an energetic movement filled with extremely useful exercises in wrist movement and the martelé stroke. All in all a majestic example of the Romantic concerto and a very valuable learning tool for the advancing player. Here finally in a brand new digital recording is this Romantic-era treasure for your own discovery. Includes an authoritative newly engraved music score printed on high-quality ivory paper; a digital stereo compact disc featuring a complete performance of the concerto with flute and guitar and a second performance minus you the flute soloist; and a second compact disc containing a full-speed version of the complete version as well as a special -20% slow-tempo version of the accompaniment for practice purposes. The concerto is indexed for your practice and performance convenience.
