These lyrical and atmospheric carols for the Christmas season offer choirs the chance of exploring treasures from one of the most musical of nations. The Welsh texts are accompanied by new English singing translations. All five carols are arranged for SATB chorus with Organ (or Piano) accompaniment.

Carl Rütti (b. 1949) studied music at the Zürich Conservatoire. Studies in London with Kendall Taylor and Richard Latham kindled a fascination with English choral singing and inspired works for unaccompanied chorus. A steady output of mostly sacred choral music has followed including the large-scale Requiem (2007).Rütti's music blends the English choral tradition with other genres including jazz and the blues in rich colourful textures and has been performed all over the world. He has worked with notable choirs including in the UK The Bach Choir BBC Symphony Chorus Norwich Cathedral Choir and Cambridge Voices and in the USA the St Louis ChamberChorus. Many of his works have beenrecorded.He teaches piano at the Zürich Conservatoire gives concerts and recitals as a pianist and organist and is the organist of the local church in Oberägeri Zug.

The Five Lesser Joys of Mary begins with a conventional Nativity scene - the ox and the ass for warmth the star the Wise Men - to verses attributed by Warlock to one Daniel Lawrence Kelleher editor of Christmas Carols (No. 18 in the second series of Augustan Books of English Poetry) where the anonymous verses were published. The fourth stanza recounts Jesus 'Confounding the doctors the poor little Child ' while the fifth carries us to Calvary and a singularly lame conclusion as Mary 'Saw Jesus droop over and lie very still She thought of the good times they had long ago When He'd droop in her arms and she'd singhusheenlo.'Strophically composed with small variations Warlock's tenderness seems generic. eltine.

Verbum Caro Factum Est by Paul Mealor for SATB divisi chorus 4 trumpets in Eb timpani percussion and organ.Verbum Caro Factum Est was commissioned by the University of St Andrews Alumni Club London for the 600th anniversary of the founding of the University of St Andrews and first performed at St Paul's Cathedral London on 20 December 2012 in the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Alexandra by St Salvator's Chapel Choir Thomas Wilkinson (organ) and The State trumpeters of Her Majesty's Life Guards conducted by Michael Downes. At the first performance of Verbum Caro Factum Estreadings were interspersed as indicated in the score. In a concert performance these sections may be used as short organ cadenzas.
