Now Thank We All Our God arranged by Carl F. Mueller for SATB choir with Piano accompaniment.The melody upon which this harmonization and arrangement is based first appeared anonymously in Praxis Pictatis Melica (1648). The authorship of the melody has been variously assigned to Johann Cruger (1598-1662) Martin Rinkart (1586-1649) and Luca Marenzio (1560-1599).

Tarik O'Regan's Mass Observation was commissioned for the University of Michigan Chamber Choir Jerry Blackstone conductor thanks to support from the William K. and Delores S. Brehm Choral Commissioning Fund and the Barbara Abramoff Levy Fund.   Composer's note:   Mass Observation is a meditation on the histories of our varied ambivalent relationships with surveillance in its myriad guises. The use of technologies that sate our desires to be watchedand heard (safety tracking empowerment and pride) has in some sense always been able to be weighed against our anxieties around invasions of privacy (physical and psychological harm hacking subjugation and embarrassment). The work takes its title from the British social research organisation Mass-Observation which aimed to record everyday life in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1937 Mass-Observation controversially paid investigators to anonymously record people's conversation and behaviour at work on the street and at various public occasions including public meetings sporting and religious events. Scored for chorus and percussion sextet  Mass Observation ebbs and flows between various polarities (human voices and percussion instruments pitched and unpitched sounds clear and opaque tonalities) over the course of its thirteen movements. There is a ritualistic nature to the overall pacing of the work reminiscent of a liturgical mass setting. The two groups of musicians are rarely aligned: for much of the piece they watch and listen to one another in silence.    Duration approximately: 40 Minutes  

The Welsh traditional song Suo Gân is here arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ Accompaniment by Stephen Cleobury. Written by an anonymous composer, in Welsh it literally means 'Lullaby'. This beautiful arrangement is sure to be a favourite with audiences and choirs alike. It features lyrics in both English and Welsh.This traditional Welsh song has been a favourite within the repertoire for many years, after having been first documented by folklorist Robert Bryan. With versions sung by Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, Suo Gân is one of the most recognisable and well-loved tunes in the Welsh and English repertoire. This new arrangement by Stephen Cleobury will be a welcome addition to any choir's performance, with the combination of such a new take on an established classic with simple beautiful music. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orgue

(Novello New Choral Series)-There is no rose of such virtue is an anonymous mediaeval text already well known through beautiful settings by Britten (in his Ceremony of Carols) John Joubert and others. The poem is ‘macaronic’ (it presents a verse in English followed by a varying Latin refrain). This new version follows the illustrious examples above by remaining strophic and presenting broadly the same music in a succession of slightly different guises. The first verse is a straightforward four-part setting the second gives the melody to the tenors and surrounds them with hushed wordless writing for the other parts and the third explores a freely canonic relationshipbetween the tenor and soprano lines before carrying the previous verse-endings to a higher more exalted pitch and mood. The fourth verse then expands its texture in a free climactic passage evoking the songs of praise sung by the angels. This subsides towards the final verse where the texture of the music attenuates again to four parts and canonic writing (based on the first four notes of the original melody) permeates all of them. This slightly extended statement leads to a hushed final cadence.Francis Pott (b. 1957) began musical life as a chorister at New College Oxford. He held open music scholarships at Winchester College and at Magdalene College Cambridge where he studied composition with Robin Holloway and Hugh Wood while pursuing piano studies privately in London with the distinguished British artist Hamish Milne. Throughout the 1990s Francis was John Bennett Lecturer in Music at St Hilda’s College Oxford and a lay clerk in the Choir of Winchester Cathedral. In 2001 he became Head of London College of Music University of West London later leading research across the University’s Faculty of Arts and acceding in 2007 to its first Chair in Composition. The poem I Sing Of A Maiden is one of the best known of the anonymous medieval hymns deceptive in its simplicity and full of grace and faith. The setting by Lennox Berkeley also has a deceptivesimplicity but reveals on repeated listenings or performances a harmonic integrity and subtlely that has made it a work that will continue to be performed and enjoyed for a long time to come. Lennox Berkeley wascomposing and having his works performed before he finished school then upon meeting Ravel was introduced to legendary teacher Nadia Boulanger in Paris with whom he studied. He mixed with the great artistic and musicalnames of prewar Paris before returning to Britain where he later met and lived with Benjamin Britten before the arrival of Peter Pears in Britten’s life. Berkeley was professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Musicand himself composed more than two hundred works of music many of them of enduring value.

Thea Musgrave's arrangement of the Anonymous 15th century text Adam Lay YBounden is scored for Children's Voices SATB Choir and Piano a performance of which lasts around 2 minutes.A review in the September 2016 issue of Organist's Review calls this 'a haunting setting...with a bell-like cascading descant' and that this 'characterful response to the words stands comparison with the well-known Ord and Ledger settings.'

Ave Maris Stella composed by Owain Park for unaccompanied SATB divisi. The approximately 3 and a half minute piece is an original setting of an anonymous plainsong and is dedicated to the Richard III Society George Haynes and the St. Peter's Singers. As well as being an award-winning composer  Park also conducts sings and plays the Organ currently holding the post of Organ Scholar at Trinity College Cambridge.
