The fourth in a series of works for Organ students the Fourth Easy Album for the Organ contains excerpts and movements of works arranged for the student Organist by Patrick Williams.The pieces are in the keys of G F D D minor and B flat and the composers are Adams J C Bach Battishill Croft Handel Hopkins Walther and Samuel Wesley.

This work is one of the most important organ compositions of the end of the nineteenth Century. It was written in the years 1894/95 though the earliest fragments date back to 1890. These had their origins in improvised Magnificat versets played by Widor at the inauguration of the Cavaillé-Coll organ of St. Ouen in Rouen. This new edition of the Wiener Urtext edition is based upon the first edition (no manuscript scores have survived) and on further editions published during Widor’s lifetime.A recording made in 1932 of Widor’s own playing has been studied in conjunction with the printed source materials. The varied ending played on that recording isincluded as an alternative. It bears witness to the composer’s improvisational treatment of his own work and the spirit in which the whole composition was originally conceived.

Johannes Brahms?s organ works in a sense ?frame? his whole oeuvre. He wrote several preludes and fugues and the chorale prelude ?O Traurigkeit o Herzeleid? in the mid-1850s at a time when he was making an intensive study ofcounterpoint. The Eleven Chorale Preludes op. 122 on the other hand are Brahms?s final work composed in 1896 immediately before and after the death of Clara Schumann. This revised Henle Urtext edition presents all of Brahms?sorgan works in a single volume following the musical text of the New Brahms Complete Edition and with a preface and a commentary that reflect the latest scholarship. The early versions of two of these pieces are also given in anappendix.

Twentieth century English composer and teacher Christopher Steel followed the progress of many tonal composers of the last century: initial prominence followed by a passage into obscurity followed by renewed posthumous appreciation. Steel was a composer of integrity and creativity who left a body of work of variety and quality. These Organ works date from the earlier part of his life and comprise Intrada Flourish Nocturne Dance Meditation and Postlude.

By combining musical technical and tonal possibilities of the Organ he wants to arouse the listener's interest and enthusiasm for Organ music and make it accessible to a wide (not just young) audience.This work of about 20 minutes' duration can also be performed without narrator.
