These arrangements were written for string ensembles in primary and secondary schools music centres prep schools and for various ensembles at Charterhouse. They grew out of a need for playable yet musically challenging arrangements where maximum 'effect' is obtained by using naturally resonant keys and idiomatic bowings - and have been used and honed over many years. They also recognise the fact that in many schools Viola players are scarce; most of the easier arrangements are therefore in three parts with optional Viola (doubling second Violin) and optional Double Bass (Viola still optional) which can be played if necessary by a Cellist (special part provided). Thearrangements ensure that all departments have the tune or thematic material at some stage - not just the first Violins!

Sinfonia No. 15 arranged in the original key of B minor, with an altered time signature from 9/16 to 9/8, is much more friendly for student musicians. Bach\'s Sinfonia No. 15, arranged by Atwell, is a great addition to string orchestra programs through dance-like eighth notes and flashy sixteenth-note arpeggiated sections creating an exciting Baroque experience. Teachers will love exploring the key of B minor, arpeggios galore for all instruments, bow distribution with 1/16ths as well as sustained notes, and the overall Baroque style found in this string orchestra arrangement by Atwell. The two existing manuscripts (1915 and 1926) of these extracts 'arranged' by Falla himself correspond to the very beginning and end of a long period during which El Amor Brujo can be seen in a series of different states.They demonstrate the care which the composer generally brought to the task of instrumentation and more particularly the aptness and validity of this piece in his own eyes as chamber music. It is clear that Falla's art oforchestration (and notably his feeling for instrumental idiom) gives his score a profound sense of balance. String parts only. Grieg Holberg Suite (From Holberg\'s Time) Op.40 (Full Score) Suite in the Olden Style for String Orchestra To celebrate the 200th birthday of the playwright Ludvig Holberg (1684-1754), a statue was erected in his honour in 1884. Edvard Grieg, who, like Holberg, was born in Bergen, was commissioned to write an open-air cantata for the ceremony. But he also refers to Holberg in his instrumental music. The result was a ?powdered wig piece? (as Grieg wrote to his publisher) that hearkens back to Holberg?s era ? a historicising suite of baroque dances for piano, ranging from an exhilarating prelude and several dance numbers to a Bachian ?air? and an impetuous ?rigaudon?. Later Grieg arranged his ?Suite in the Olden Style? for string orchestra. This version became one of his most popular compositions.
