In its new series entitled Sacred Choral Works EMB presents a collection of religious choral pieces by contemporary and 20th-century Hungarian composers. The first six volumes are devoted to works by the outstanding 20th-century composer for choirs Lajos Bárdos more specifically the works in Latin from the recently published Bárdos series Musica Sacra. The first volume contains the works for equal voices the other five contain those for mixed choir the latter grouped according to religious festivals: Volume 2 has the Christmas choruses Volume 3 those for the Easter season Volume 4 those relating to the period following Easter Volume 5 Marian songs and Volume 6 the pieces forother occasions.

Par . Both volumes of Easier Together - Recorders contain short and easy duos that can be performed by beginners either with their teachers or with more advanced learners. The pieces progress gradually from easier ones to more difficult works. This collection of recorder duos can also, with some supplementary material, be used as a recorder method. In these volumes, the musical experience of two-part playing is further enriched by the use of different recorder types: where indicated, the lower part can be played not only on soprano recorder but also on alto, tenor, or even sopranino recorder. Some pieces include harmonic indications, so an accompaniment can be improvised alongside the two recorder parts. The process of learning and practising is additionally supported by a fingering chart and articulation marks for tonguing, with new musical elements highlighted in the score. Trombone and recorder teacher Péter Perényi (b. 1954) was for many years the head of the wind department at the Bence Szabolcsi Music School in Budapest. He has held several training courses for recorder teachers, and the recorder gatherings he organised in Budapest gave rise to the National László Czidra Recorder Competition. Szkhárosi Horvát András éneke egykorú dallam szerint-This large-scale work originally written for male voices has been adapted for mixed voices by Kodály himself. The work was written initially for the centennial of the Calvinist Teacher Training Institute in Nagyk rös. Nothing has been discovered as to when he actually did the arrangement. The year 1952 was suggested by eyewitnesses who have said the version was first performed by the Budapest Pozsonyi Street Calvinist Church choir in 1953. (The date 1952 appears at the end of a fair copy in an unknown hand.) This is the first time this arrangement is published in print in the hope that great joy is found in performing a very rich score that calls for considerable vocal skill.Zoltán Kodály's complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new extended edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A). This volume containing 51 compositions has been edited by the renowned conductor Péter Erdei one of the most devoted interpreters of Kodály's choral works. The new edition takes into consideration the manuscript sources for the compositions housed in the Kodály Archives in Budapest. The publication features new easily-legible music scores edited on uniform principles. For better readability the new edition is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions.The present publication is an offprint from the renewed edition of Kodály's complete choral works for mixed voices. It has the same format as the volume and has been printed on excellent-quality pale-yellow paper.

A Christmas Carol (Hungarian folksong)-The piece was written originally for equal voice choir in 1929. A mixed-choir adaptation was made in 1961 at the request of Oxford University Press. This appeared in print in the same year with an English text under the title A Christmas Carol in a collection of Christmas songs as well as in a separate print. The musical material of the mixed-choir version largely follows the original. There is one essential difference in verse 5 beginning at bar 35 (Babe all holy) where the tenor solo appears with a delightful eight-bar countermelody not found in the original. Since this version only appeared in Kodály's lifetime with an English text this has been retained but we havealso provided the original Hungarian text upon which the equal voice version is based. Klezmer Miniatures has been compiled for young musicians who, by playing an instrument, would like to become acquainted with the musically varied world of Klezmer. The series comprises two duos, four trios and two quartets, which can be performed with different combinations of instruments - violin, clarinet, flute, cello, double bass, bass guitar and trumpet. The composer, Ferenc Jávori, is a major figure of world music in Europe and is a prolific composer, orchestrator and performer. He is the founder and leader of the Budapest Klezmer Band. Jávori was born into a Hungarian-Jewish community in Munkács (Mukacheve, Ukraine), where the years before the Second World War witnessed a golden age of Klezmer, the traditional, instrumental folk music of Yiddish-speaking Jewish communities. He has collected and compiled numerous melodies and songs from the last representatives of this formerly vibrant musical culture. Each of the Klezmer Miniatures reflects a different traditional genre of Klezmer. In these pieces Jávori has used certain motifs from Moisei Beregosky's folk music collection. / 2 Violons

The Bartók Performing Editions-Instruktive Ausgaben von Béla Bártok. Par BARTOK BELA. Bartók probably first played pieces by Domenico Scarlatti in public in 1911. During the next two decades he featured them in his piano recitals more than 60 times. His dedication to Italian and French Baroque music is also illustrated by the fact that in 1920, he signed a contract with the Budapest publisher Rozsnyai to edit seven volumes of Baroque keyboard music. His plan was to select compositions by Couperin and Rameau in addition to pieces by Scarlatti, but during the 1920s it ended up being only two volumes of Couperin and another two comprising ten compositions by Scarlatti. In editing these masterpieces, Bartók's aim was primarily to counterbalance or even overshadow the works by the 'Mendelssohn-Schumann epigones' used in primary and secondary musical education. The present single-volume collection comprises Bartók's two Scarlatti volumes, complete with an editorial preface, his detailed performing instructions, and his commentary. The editor recommends these compositions for pianists with at least five years' experience, and give practical recommendations for the grouping of individual items to form charming 'sonatina-like' sets of pieces./ Répertoire / Piano

Hungarian Rondo was composed by Zoltán Kodály in December 1917, drawing on material from the incidental music he had written for Zsigmond Móriczs play Pacsirtaszó (Skylarking). The rondo form is shaped out of four new-style Hungarian folk songs and an instrumental dance melody. Kodály prepared the piece in two somewhat different versions, one for two clarinets, two bassoons and string orchestra, and the other for cello and piano. The orchestral version received its first performance in Vienna on 12 January 1918 at a 'historical concert' organized by the War Ministry of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The cello version was premi?red by Miklós Zsámboky and Ottó Herz at the Budapest Academy of Music on 4 November 1927. Neither version appeared in print in the composers lifetime. The version for string orchestra was edited in 1976 by Ferenc Farkas and István Máriássy (and is distributed as a hire material under the order number K-1). The cello version appears here in print for the first time. The publication is based on the composers surviving manuscript and a contemporary manuscript copy of this. 24 Pieces For Piano. Par WOLF PETER E.. Péter Wolf (a doctoral graduate of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest) has composed a number of large-scale compositions in recent years which have had success at the hands of distinguished performers: these include two piano concertos as well as concertos for oboe, clarinet, and violin. By entitling his newest set of pieces for piano Wolf-temperiertes Klavier, the composer was able to simultaneously indulge in wordplay based upon his surname and give a tip of the hat to German baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach. The work's likeness to Bach is not limited to its title - the manner in which a piece has been written in both major and minor keys for each tone of the chromatic scale is blatantly inspired by Bach. In the preface to this publication, Wolf offers the following insights: ''I think I managed to find expressive titles. The first piece, Epiclesis (a prayer for inspiration, patience, and support), was heard from above: I was able to work continuously and without inhibitions. The works could be born in every key, until the last one, the Epilogue, was completed. When I finally finished inscribing the pitches of Bach's name, I admit, a little shiver went through me.'' Of the character pieces, all were completely new with the exceptions of one being previously written and another whose theme Wolf borrowed from one of his own stage works. The editorial additions to the present volume by Ede Banda, professor at the Academy of Music of Budapest, founding member of the Tátrai String Quartet are based on the editor's experiences as performing artist and teacher for nearly fifty years and on the development of the cello technique which took place in the field of fingering and ligatures in the meantime.
