Ameri can Folk Hymn This great American folk hymn begins meditatively, through use of the singing bell and malleted bells off the table, offering an effective meditation on Christ's wonderful love. As the hymn text moves from reflective stanzas to full praise in the final stanzas with the words, To God and to the Lamb I will sing, so too, this compelling setting gains momentum and energy.

THIS IS THE LEADER'S EDITION Conceived and created in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic which began in early 2020 and continues as this edition goes to press, the resource, Amen. Alleluia! A resource for praying farewell, grows out of reality and necessity. All individuals, families and institutions have been affected by the pandemic, including the church. Congregations responded in offering pastoral care in numerous ways when a gathering of people was not possible or permissible. It seems inevitable that some of these initiatives will now become a normative experience in the life of a congregation. These initiatives include the streaming or broadcast of services, increased ministry to those who cannot be present, providing resources for home prayer, adaptation of worship services in denomination resources, and relevant to this publication, the growing experience of delayed or postponed funerals. Amen. Alleluia! A resource for praying farewell offers clergy, pastoral ministers, congregations, families and individuals a collection of prayer services, Scripture passages, other texts, and music to mourn the death, and celebrate the life, of the deceased. While many of the services are framed in the structure of Western liturgical traditions, the collection is truly ecumenical. The material within may be used in conjunction with a congregation’s or denomination’s principal worship resource, or as an alternative to established liturgies. With adaptation, this resource can be used at interfaith memorials, as well as with those who have no affiliation in a faith tradition. CONTENTS: Graveside Funeral and Service of Committal, Graveside Funeral and Service of Committal for a Child, Graveside Committal Following a Funeral, Brief Service for the Scattering of Ashes, Prayer Service When a Funeral Is Delayed, Anniversary Visit to a Grave, Meditation for a Personal Visit to a Gravesite, Prayer and Meditation When Tending a Grave, Remembering and Naming the Saints of the Congregation, A Congregational Ritual of Loss and New Beginnings, Brief Service for the Death of a Beloved Animal, Other Liturgical Texts, Scripture Readings, Psalms, Poetry and Reflections, Hymns.

In spring 2020, coronavirus began spreading throughout the world and in many places people were subjected to quarantine. It was then that Hiyoli Togawa, a violist, proposed that the BIS record label release a viola disc entitled Songs of Solitude of short compositions by different contemporary composers, as a sort of reflection of the present time and offering comfort to listeners in their solitude. Hiyoli asked Kalevi Aho (b. 1949) to compose a piece in which she could play and sing simultaneously. The meditative, melancholy Am Horizont is dedicated to Hiyoli Togawa and composed in April 2020. Duration: c. 5'30''.

This volume from the popular Cellissimo series contains 30 entertaining recital pieces, mostly from the Romantic period. In additionto three original serenades by Jacques Offenbach, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and the French composer Mel Bonis, the volume contains beautiful character pieces, mostly one-movement forms such as berceuse, elegy, humoresque, meditation, melody, nocturne, romance, tarantella, valse de concert and much more . Expressive lyrical pieces are represented as well as cheerful and virtuoso works. In addition to original works, there are numerous arrangements of popular works, including Schumann's Traumerei, Grieg's Anitras Tanz, Fauré's Après un rêve, Elgar's Salut d'amour or Rachmaninoff's Vocalise - all pieces that are well suited as concert and encore pieces . The volume also contains rarities and new discoveries, including original works by cello virtuosos such as Dotzauer, Offenbach, Goltermann, van Goens and Trowell, as well as works by composers Mel Bonis, Juliette Dantin, Ethel Harraden and Claudine Smidt. The level of difficulty is demanding and is aimed at advanced cellists. Many pieces use the 5th-7th position, others have passages in a simple thumb position, sometimes also with high harmonics. They are therefore very good practice examples for advanced users who want to apply sophisticated techniques to beautiful examples of literature. Last but not least, the requirements for expression and design offer plenty of room for cellist and musical development.

In The Diamond Sutra, an early Buddhist text also known as The Diamond that Cuts Through Illusion, the Buddha leads his interlocutor, the Elder Subhuti, through a series of questions and provocations. The Buddha then concludes the session by offering this teaching to those assembled:All composed things are like a dream,a phantom, a drop of dew, a flash of lightning. That is how to meditate on them;that is how to observe them. This duo piece is in four sections, corresponding roughly to these four disparate visions of impermanence: four distinct moments of interplay between form and emptiness, four corners of a diamond. This series of images is itself a 'composed thing,' gathering dissimilar elements into a unified system. It suggests that the things we make are similar to things that exist beyond intention. The Buddha's utterance helps us hear so-called 'composition' and 'improvisation' - or the encompassing category, 'music' - as part of an even larger aggregate: that which forms and recedes.- Vijay Iyer.
