Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 5 - SKU: A0.938580 Composed by Douglas Pew. Contemporary,Opera. 42 pages. Blue Shore Music #13037. Published by Blue Shore Music (A0.938580). An Opera in one-act. Piano-Vocal Score. BSM0029a. Libretto by Dara Weinberg. Duration: 20:00. Commissioned by Washington National Opera at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Premiered by the WNO, Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists at the Kennedy Center. Conductor, Anne Manson. Mr. Pew’s score-mirabile dictu-soars into a beautiful, Romantic vocal triptych. It was stunning. The audience greeted the singers, the musicians, and above all the composer-librettist team with a vigorous and appreciative round of applause. They noticed this little bit of magic, too. - The Washington Times. Synopsis: March 2001. Jean Bierbaum moves into Sunset Terrace, where her sister Sylvia and Sylvia's friend Harriet live. Dr. Vergara accidentally calls Jean Mrs. Bierbaum. Jean sings about her fiance, who died in WWII. She has never married. Sylvia and Harriet also sing about their experiences during WWII. Another resident, Jerry Rosenberg, whose wife is dying, enters and sings a song about his longing to see Poland again. His wife's illness prevents him from traveling. Jerry sympathizes with Jean's situation--he too is in love with someone who is unreachable. They sing a duet together. Jean begins to develop an interest in Jerry. Concert Band - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1089980 By Masakazu YAMAMOTO. By Claude Debussy. Arranged by Masakazu YAMAMOTO. 20th Century,Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Pop. 22 pages. Motch Music #694194. Published by Motch Music (A0.1089980). Arrangement for concert band. This is the 12th song from Preludes 2nd book, which is Debussy's mature piano music. It is a depiction of the Paris Festival (Revolutionary Day) on July 14. Against the background of the first triplet, you can start to see fireworks shining in the distance. After getting closer and closer and launching it bigger, it's dizzying and colorful. It's changing to shine. Fanfare-style motifs that appear on the way are deployed in various ways, and they are magnificently reproduced at the climax at the end.And the French national anthem La Marseès concludes the song with a reverberation in the aftertaste. The whole scale and the tonic sound are skillfully combined, and the original song is very pianistic.I want to switch the tone and tempo firmly for each scene, and try to play crisp and colorful performances. Commissioned by conductor Keiko Kobayashi, and the Sony Concert Band. Premiered on July 2, 2022. Playing time: about 5'00(arr. Jazz Ensemble. Latin and Swing, multi-meter. The Dizzy Gillespie classic features Trombone 1 playing the melody as a half-time ballad against Latin style rhythm accompaniment. Concert Band - Level 4 - SKU: A0.942434 Arranged by Brock Lupton. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 84 pages. Brock Lupton #6879051. Published by Brock Lupton (A0.942434). Brahms composed the Alto Rhapsody, properly known as Rhapsody for Alto, Male Chorus, and Orchestra, opus 53 in 1869. It was first performed in Jena on March 3, 1870. The text is based on Harzreise im Winter (Winter Journey in the Harz Mountains), a poem by well-known German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). The Alto Rhapsody, like many of Brahms’ works, has loneliness and alienation as its central themes. Brahms’ devotion to Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann’s widow, is well-known (the letters between her and Brahms fill two volumes). What is less well-known is that he was undoubtedly very fond of Julie Schumann, Clara’s daughter. In 1869, Brahms spent the summer near the Schumann’s residence and was in daily contact with Julie and Clara completing, among other works, the Liebeslieder (Love Song) Waltzes. In early July, Julie announced her engagement. Of course, I told Johannes first of all, Clara noted in her diary on the 11th. Soon after, the conductor Hermann Levi told her that Brahms had been devotedly attached to her daughter. By July 16th, Clara noted in her diary that Brahms speaks only in monosyllables . . . [and] treats Julie in the same manner, although he used to be so especially nice to her. Did he love her? Julie was married on September 22. Later on that very wedding day, Brahms called on Clara, who wrote in her diary, Johannes brought me a very wonderful piece . . . the words from Goethe’s Harzreise. . . He called it his bridal song. This piece seems to me neither more nor less than the expression of his own heart’s anguish. If only he would for once speak so tenderly! This piece is of course the dark and emotional Alto Rhapsody. Goethe’s poem Harzreise im Winter poetically describes the kind of life God intends for different temperaments. The three stanzas set by Brahms concern the fate of a man in fruitless struggle against the bonds of misery. A young man, turned misanthropic by sorrow, seeks solitude in the wilderness. The piece is in the baroque cantata style, with an opening recitative, and aria, and a concluding chorale. The alto describes the desolate winter landscape and in the final chorale joins the male chorus in a prayer for a melody that can bring comfort to the thirsting soul (indeed the plea restore his heart is repeated three times at the end, as a kind of Amen). In the Alto Rhapsody it is not hard to find evidence for Brahms’ statement that I speak through my music. The foregoing is from a program note written for a 1997 New York Choral Society performance of the Alto Rhapsody in observance of the centenary of the death of Johannes Brahms. It has been taken from the society web page http://www.nychoral.org/brahms/brahms3.htmlAn English translation of the German text used by Brahms SOLOBut down there, who is it?His path loses itself in the bush. Behind him the branches close. The grass stands up again. Desolation surrounds him. O, who heals the wounds of the one to whom balm has become poison, who drank hatred of people from the fullness of love? Once despised, now a despiser. Secretly he destroys himself in unsatisfying self-seeking. CHORUS If there is in your psaltery, Father of Love, a tone his ear can hear, let it enliven his heart. .

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1314290 By PIano - Sebastian Kurz. By Geraldine (Denny) Green. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score. 27 pages. Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic #903031. Published by Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic (A0.1314290). Written in 2008, Miscellany, 7 short movements for solo piano, was Commissioned by conductor/pianist Anthony Davie.Duration: approx 15 minutes in total.Inspired by friends, family and general life experiences, this set of short pieces encompasses a range of moods; from Romantic and melodic to comical and dissonant.Movement 1. Didi – Didi was a very unique and special friend for many years. She gave out great spiritual strength and insight into this very confusing world in which we all live. She was a real tower of quiet, gentle strength.Movement 2. Brew! – This movement was inspired directly by the Brewing Industry. It strives to depict the hustle and bustle of a busy, working brewery and the the many hilarious, fabulous people I met during my three years in the beer-making industry.Movement 3 – Convent Cherub – This little piece began life as the opening title music of a film score I worked on while at college. The film itself, entitled My Brother Rob, was made by Alison Hilder, a student director at the Harrow School of Film. The story told of a young boy traumatised by a convent boarding school up-bringing. I have felt for many years that this little main theme has needed an alternative home, as much film music is never played again.Movement 4 – Megan – This movement comes directly from my wonderful and beautiful daughter, who was 5 years old at the time of the writing of this piece. It seeks to express her wild vibrance, eternal cheekiness, infinite energy, sparkle and the utter fearlessness of youth.Movement 5 – Edward – This music is for my gorgeous little son, who has Down’s Syndrome, and was only 3 at the time of the writing of this piece. The opening came to me moments after the doctor had confirmed Edward had Down’s, when he was only 6 hours old. The music tries to convey the fear of the unknown, huge unconditional love and moments of uncertainty alternated by washes of strength. And yet, all through the fear the resolve to forever love and stay strong always wins.Movement 6 – Indifference – The opening 4 notes are the core of this movement, and the piece is built around and from them. This music is an observation of deep, rumbling frustration at the indifference growing in our fast moving, modern society.Movement 7 – “Wee Us†– This movement expresses family triumph, the gifts of life and love, and the glory of boundless, wild, youthful energy. This tune has not yet run its course. It will be back!

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.752412 By ABBA. By Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Pop. Score and parts. 2 pages. RBMusic #5795689. Published by RBMusic (A0.752412). On 6 April 1974, the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest took place in Brighton, UK. It should have been held in Luxembourg but, after having won in both 1972 and 1973, they declined to stage the contest in 1974 on the grounds of the expense to host it for a second consecutive year; the BBC agreed to stage it. Drawn 8th, the conductor for the Swedish, Sven-Olof Walldoff, comes on stage dressed as Napoleon. The music starts, and less than 3 minutes later, history was made. This was the year that ABBA won with Waterloo and the victory began their path to worldwide fame. Waterloo is the first single from ABBA's second album, Waterloo, and is the first to be credited to the group performing under the name ABBA. It became a No.1 hit in several countries, including the UK, and went on to sell nearly six million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles in history. At the 50th anniversary celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, it was chosen as the best song in the competition's history. It has been recorded in English, Swedish, French, German and Finnish – it was the first winning entry to Eurovision in a language other than that of their home country (with rules concerning language having been relaxed in 1973). Waterloo was released on 1 June 2018 as the second single from the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack, performed by Hugh Skinner and Lily James. Arranged to mark the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, due to be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on 16 May 2020, but cancelled due to the 2019/2020 Coronavirus Pandemic. It is designed for two treble-clef instruments (part 1 in Bb and part 2 in F). This version is in C major (concert pitch) – part 1 has a written range from B3 to D5 and part 2 has a written range from B3 to D5. (For other parts/versions, see my other Waterloo titles.) A recording of the original song can be found here onYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj_9CiNkkn4. Other searchable terms: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Sweden, United Kingdom, England, Ring Ring, Melodifestivalen, Janne Schaffer, Rutger Gunnarsson, Ola Brunkert, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Misérables, London, Battle of Waterloo, 1815, Hasta Mañana, Wizzard, Cher, The Martian, Matt Damon

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.784343 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Score and parts. 146 pages. Slide Ride #5288693. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784343). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.752408 By ABBA. By Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. Arranged by Rob Bushnell. Broadway,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Musical/Show,Pop. Score and parts. 2 pages. RBMusic #5795229. Published by RBMusic (A0.752408). It is designed for two treble-clef instruments (part 1 in Bb and part 2 in Eb). This version is in C major (concert pitch) – part 1 has a written range from B3 to D5 and part 2 has a written range from C#4 to E5. (For other parts/versions, see my other Waterloo titles.) A recording of the original song can be found here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj_9CiNkkn4. Other searchable terms: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Sweden, United Kingdom, England, Ring Ring, Melodifestivalen, Janne Schaffer, Rutger Gunnarsson, Ola Brunkert, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Misérables, London, Battle of Waterloo, 1815, Hasta Mañana, Wizzard, Cher, The Martian, Matt Damon
