Baritone Saxophone Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.784333 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Individual part. 38 pages. Slide Ride #5288657. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784333). 1 Octave Scale Studies in 15+ keys for 4-part ensembles of like or mixed instruments If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy!

Trombone Duet Trombone - SKU: A0.784313 Composed by Joshua Hauser. Instructional. Score. 41 pages. Slide Ride #3570011. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784313).  If this is your first exposure to these scale studies, you are in for a treat! Don’t step in the holes!  I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent.  As with those exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like. • Choose a tempo • Choose a dynamic. • Choose an articulation/style.  One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.  Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping 5 lines to play the same set in a new key.  If you want an additional challenge in terms of range, play them in different octaves or change the clef and key signature to expand the set. For example, if you play the F Major example in Tenor Clef, change the key signature to C Major and you have a version that is based an octave higher than the C Major version as written later.  Additionally, you can change the Key. Play them in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes.  The variations are endless!  All Donut Etudes with the same version number are compatible so you can play them in mixed duets with one person on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2.  Enjoy!

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1226321 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance. 48 pages. Jmsgu3 #822323. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1226321). Minimum instrumentation: 3 Brass Quartets - 6 trumpets in C (or cornets) 3 French Horns in F, and 3 trombones. InnovationsGabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style.Polychoral WorksGabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well.Spatial MusicAbove all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance.First WorksFinally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung.HomophonyHence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Slide Ride #5288699. Published by Slide Ride (A0.784345).

MusicPAD Music Publications #5721963. Published by MusicPAD Music Publications (A0.872913). Putting these two tunes together was too much fun for tubas only, so this is the trombone quartet arrangement utilizing portions of two famous American (ish) tunes, Stars and Stripes Forever and Beer Barrel Polka. Fun! Fun! Fun! Super fun stuff for four trombones. The top trombone part does stretch to triple C and the bass trombone part does descend to pedal tone range. However, in both cases, ossia notes are included to accommodate any ensemble needs. To make rehearsal easy, generous rehearsal marks are (as always) included. Get those trombones going and celebrate! Enjoy!

This is a trombone quartet arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner which incorporates many of the great sounds of earlier renditions of the piece but in a trombone quartet setting. This is an medium-advanced level piece for reasonably well seasoned players. Some challenges include high register playing on part 1 (up to triple C) as well as an involved bass trombone part with pedal tones (many ossia notes are included for facility). Rehearsal numbers are included to make practice / rehearsal much easier. This is a great way to showcase your awesome trombone players before an athletic event. Ladies and gentlemen, please rise...

Published by Tiger Music (A0.750372). Stompin’ Jam Trumpet and Trombone Duet MTR 0255 4143 By Eddie Lewis Jazz out with your trumpet or trombone friend playing this cool sounding duet. We’re calling it a jam because both players get to play a solo over the repeated accompaniment line. First the trombone player jams, then the trumpet. Here is the first of what I hope to be many, many duets made possible by my Just Friends video series. In this series I am inviting one of my musician friends over to make music, do an interview and maybe follow it all up with a Q and A session. I wrote this duet for one of those videos and we had a good time recording it. I enjoy writing music for the people I work with. Does trumpet and trombone seem like an odd duet to write? Well, you may not believe this, but sometimes trumpet players have trombone player friends. :-) Thus, the purpose of the duet. Trumpet Pro Skill Level The highest note in the trumpet part is B natural. The rhythms are also just a little complicated. That’s why we put this at the Trumpet Pro level. We recorded it the same day when I wrote it, so it’s not like I was working on this for days. But there was a little bit of awkwardness in the trumpet part. Practice Recommendations My number one suggestion for practicing this piece is to learn the rhythms first. Notice the anticipation of the third beat. This happens in almost every measure. This rhythm grew on me during my trip to South Africa in 2016 when I performed with the Afrika Mkhize big band. There were lots of songs at the jazz festival in Grahamstown that had that twelve-eight groove with the anticipated third beat. I am NOT saying that this composition is South African. I would not presume to know how to write that kind of music. What I am saying is that the music in South Africa has influenced my writing. In much the same way as playing in all those salsa bands in the 90’s did. So, recognize that the rhythms in this composition are very important and learn those first. The rest of it should fall into place after that. About the Trumpet Pro Skill Level The Trumpet Pro skill level is the fifth skill level in our system. This skill level has exercises and music up to high C. There are many other considerations in this skill level but that is the most obvious. To find more music for this specific skill level, search our other publications for the word Trumpet Pro in the title or descriptions. We publish books and compositions for students at the Trumpet Pro level that we believe you or your students will truly enjoy.

Brass Ensemble Trombone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.872914 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by P.A. Drahozal. 20th Century,Concert,Folk,Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 18 pages. MusicPAD Music Publications #6057877. Published by MusicPAD Music Publications (A0.872914). This is a musically flowing compilation of several lighter selections authored by the legendary Antonin Dvorak and set for a trombone quartet. This challenging arrangement is the perfect addition to a college trombone recital or presentation piece. Lively, entertaining, engaging and full of beautiful counterpoint, Dvorak Front and Center is bound to be an audience pleaser from note one! Logically placed generous rehearsal markings are carefully set and a score is included to facilitate efficient preparation and rehearsal. There is an opportunity for an alto trombone double in the first part (not transposed). The first part does explore the very high register (triple D) but ossia notes are always included as an option. All parts are called upon for melodic playing as the lead line does move around. Thus, the 2nd and 3rd parts are called upon for a little high register playing too (not as high as the first though). Be advised- this is a challenging and very rewarding arrangement for advanced players. With the proper investment of time, Dvorak Front and Center will return rewards and accolades for your studious trombone quartet.

Saxophone Quintet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Bass Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1404856 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Chamber,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards. 36 pages. Jmsgu3 #987886. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1404856). The importance of Bach's French Suites lies in their unique blend of French and Italian styles despite the misleading title. These suites, composed between 1722 and 1725 for the clavier, showcase Bach's mastery in stylizing traditional dances like allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, and gigues. While named French Suites by later sources like Johann Nikolaus Forkel, they follow Italian conventions with some French influences. The suites offer a rich musical experience, bridging different European styles and serving as valuable teaching pieces. Despite the misleading title, Bach's French Suites are a testament to his compositional genius and continue to be cherished by musicians and audiences alike. The history behind Bach's French Suites is intertwined with a bittersweet period in Bach's life. In May 1720, Bach embarked on a trip, leaving his wife, Maria Barbara, and four children. Tragically, upon his return, he discovered that Maria Barbara had passed away. This loss led to a significant change in Bach's personal life as he became a single father mourning his wife. Despite this tragedy, Bach found love again with Anna Magdalena Wülcken, whom he married. As a gesture of affection and to cultivate her musical skills, Bach composed music for Anna Magdalena, including what would later become the French Suites. These suites were likely performed at court and reflected the couple's intimate musical companionship. The French Suites were not published during Bach's lifetime, possibly because he did not deem it challenging enough. Today, these suites offer an accessible path to Bach's music and are cherished for their stylized dance movements inspired by French and Italian forms.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.811191 Composed by Mark Narins. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and part. 101 pages. Gordon Cherry #6069485. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811191). Cherry Classics is pleased to introduce Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra 2020 (Piano reduction) by San Francisco based composer/conductor Mark Narins. The concerto is in 4 movements: I. Prayer, II. Meditation, III. Call and Response, IV. Exaltation Here is a description of the work by Mark Narins, the composer: Prayer: The first movement starts with a shimmering tremolo in the strings over which the silver voice of the trombone plays an arching phrase that lingers on an extended appoggiatura. The trombone is a lone mystic reaching for the sky and then falling perilously down to the pedal register. Later the orchestra breaks into a frenetic vamp over which the trombone plays intense ascending scales and passage work. The movement ends with an ascent to a high C#, moving to a final ringing high C. Meditation: After the harp lays out a series of arpeggiated chords, the trombone plays a warm, rich theme in the middle range. The following episodes are variations on this theme. The trombone moves into the upper register, floating with the ease of a lead trombone in a big band. The movement ends with an ascending yearning phrase reaching a high D as the soloist touches the sky and then comes gently back to earth. Call and Response: The orchestral accompaniment starts in an anxious, mysterious tonality. The trombone enters with a burst of energy playing a machine gun series of Fs. The movement develops into a series of short brilliant solo passages answered boldly by the orchestra. This movement showcases the stunning declamatory powers of the trombone. Exaltation: Movement 4 starts as an allegro with intense tremolos in the basses. The trombone breaks out into an articulated driving theme followed by several extended melodic passages. Midway in the movement the strings abruptly lay out a syncopated Latin dance rhythm over which the trombone climbs from the bottom to the top of its range in rapid triplets. In the final codetta the trombone accelerates the dance tempo and climaxes on a series of high C#s in a brilliant and joyous fashion. The concerto is 27 minutes in duration and is appropriate for advanced performers. This version with Piano is a reduction of the full Orchestral version (to be published in the near future). The new Trombone Concerto by Mark Narins is a very exciting piece with dramatic contrasts between the slow and fast sections. The move to the finish of the piece makes for a great wrap-up. It's a real blow for the player, really exploring the range of the instrument. It will be demanding and fun for the trombonist. Ken Andresen, New York freelance musician

Piano,Trombone - Level 3 - SKU: A0.587388 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by David McKeown. Sacred,Spiritual,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 5 pages. David McKeown #3222417. Published by David McKeown (A0.587388). Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. This version is arranged as a solo for Trombone with Piano. The pdf file contains both the piano accompaniment and the separate solo part. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. Both parts play the melody. The overall performance time is around four and a half minutes. The overall performance time is around four and a half minutes. The linked full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing and expressive playing. The rhythms are straightforward though there are extended triplet quaver arpeggios which will pose a challenge for the pianist’s finger coordination. Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1173508 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Austin Ralphson. 20th Century,Classical,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and part. 14 pages. Austin Ralphson #773653. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.1173508). Clair de lune means moonlight in French, and Debussy took this title from Verlaine's poem Clair de lune. The beautiful melody works very well for solo instrument with piano and requires good breath control. The rhythms are particularly tricky in this piece, regularly moving from triplets to duplets and back again. Despite this, however, it should always flow smoothly and be played with feeling.Parts are provided in B flat (treble clef) and concert pitch C (bass clef). This piece can either be played with a live pianist, or can be played along with the free backing track which is available from https://youtu.be/EJ9cVpdO2ho and also in the video screen above. You can also purchase all 5 beautiful solos together in a digital book for $9.99: https://armusiconline.com/b/jDSA0

Written primarily by John Lennon, it was credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. Both songs were recorded during the sessions for the band's Rubber Soul album. The single topped charts in Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway. In the United States, Day Tripper peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and We Can Work It Out held the top position.Day Tripper is a rock song based around an electric guitar riff and drawing on the influence of American soul music. The Beatles included it in their concert set-list until their retirement from live performances in late August 1966.The single was the first example of a double A-side in Britain Its success popularised the format and, in giving equal treatment to two songs, allowed recording artists to show their versatility. The band's use of promotional films to market the single anticipated the modern music video. In the UK, Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out was the seventh highest selling single of the 1960s. As of December 2018, it was the 54th best-selling single of all time in the UK – one of six Beatles singles included in the top sales rankings published by the Official Charts Company.
