Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.882144 Composed by French carol. Arranged by Samuel Wellman. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Samuel Wellman #6645679. Published by Samuel Wellman (A0.882144). Pat-a-pan is a French Christmas carol from before the 1700s, of Burgundian origin. The text asks Willie and Robin, two figures common in French culture, to praise God and the birth of Jesus Christ with flute and drum. Near the end I have a canon of the tune, with the bass in augmentation. Hooray!

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1189809 By Brian Golden. By Brian Golden. Arranged by Brian Golden. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Brian Golden #789404. Published by Brian Golden (A0.1189809). Prelude 2 in A Minor Aolian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden   The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Bach and Frederic Chopin, whose works stand as essential repertoire for any student of the piano.  Using Bach’s and Chopin’s examples, my goal was to compose in all twenty-four keys, yet offer my own variation on the progression of key signatures – Bach’s being a pattern of major to parallel minor progressing chromatically through all keys, and Chopin’s a pattern of major to relative minor keys progressing clockwise through the circle of fifths.  In order to expand my harmonic and melodic possibilities, I have included the modal keys rather than only the major and harmonic minor keys, and have chosen to work counterclockwise through the circle of fifths, which is a more natural harmonic progression.  Therefore, all major preludes resolve from one to another V-I, as well as do all the minor preludes.  While there are seven modal scales, I decided to leave out the locrian modes for the following reasons.  First, due to the diminished fifth, the locrian mode cannot be thought of as either major nor minor.  Second, the locrian mode did not have a relative key to pair with, since there were no other keys with the identical characteristic notes.  In creating the key architecture, I determined that there was only one solution to pairing major and relative minor scales based on a shared parent key and characteristic note - ionian/aolian, mixolydian/phrygian and lydian/dorian.  This specific order of modal scales is the only order that would enable composing in all twelve key signatures.  Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.987083 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte and Felix Le Couppey. Arranged by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #1954995. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987083). This piece is a free adaptation and a complete reworking of a study by Felix Le Couppey (1811-1887), from his L'Agilité, Opus 20, 25 Progressive Studies for Mechanism and Light Touch. In its original form, this study was a charming little piece of musical fluff. But getting it up to speed reduced me to tears! It also gave me an epiphany of immense power that transformed my technique. Suddenly I could play faster than I had ever thought possible, and I could do so with a thrilling ease! This epiphany emerged from the spluttering frustration I felt over my inability to play these sixteenth notes at Le Couppey's metronome marking of 144. It dawned on me that I couldn’t play fast enough because I was tripping over my own fingers when I used the overly articulated technique of moving the fingers by the lift, throw, relax method. This superfluous motion creates an impenetrable barrier, a speed wall, as does playing legato scales by passing the thumb under the palm, when shifting hand position up and down the keyboard. So I found another way-which I’ve since learned was known to every pianist who ever achieved prodigious speed. Here’s how to bring this piece up to speed with ease: Be sure to practice this piece with each hand alone. For each group of sixteenth notes, gently place the four fingers down simultaneously, to get the feel. Think of your arm, from elbow to fingertips, as something like a kitchen utensil, such as a spatula. Moving your right arm as a unit, place your finger tips down into the key bed, depressing all four notes at once, as a block chord. Make sure that all the fingers remain stiff (not rigid with tension, but just stiff enough to resist collapsing upwards.) Slowly lift and then play each group by placing all the fingers down with a rotation of your forearm, calm and relaxed, with the fingers rolling through the notes at the speed of a brief snare drum roll: Rrrrip! To rip through this group of notes like this takes no more effort than to place those four fingers down, calmly, all at once! Then, with a quick shift up or down the keyboard to get into position for the next group, that’s the whole trick for playing such passages with astonishing speed and ease! It takes time and effort to get the knack here, but the result can be transformative and thrilling! As for my adaptation of this study, I believe it offers intermediate advanced players the chance to enjoy a great leap in technique like the one I experienced, and also offers a piece of music that one might not blush to play outside the practice room-perhaps bringing it at least into the living room for a soirée, if not into the concert hall. To make this adaptation, I wrote a grumbly bass line with lungs, and nice fat chords to flesh out most of the skinny little triads that accompany the original study’s fast passages. I added a brooding, chromatic introduction that features as a melody the accompanimental figure of a broken triad that Le Couppey wrote a few times on the second page, in various inversions. I employed this broken chord figure several more times in both hands, and also added a little coda, sprinkled with sparkle. Playing time is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.976513 Composed by James Domine. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 22 pages. Earth Music, Ltd. #2081805. Published by Earth Music, Ltd. (A0.976513). The Rondo Scherzando opens with a fanfare that leads directly to principal theme. This somewhat unruly passage with cinematographic overtones leads to a post-modern fantasy that feels like latter-day jazz meditation. The reverie unfolds, leading us to a quasi-humorous semi-bizarre circus-like rendering of the scherzando theme, presented as an episode in a pantheon of unlikely, unexpected and unanticipated circumstances, that dwindles away quietly into a deceptively calm serenity. Subsequent passages turn the main theme over in a variety of different permutations until finally it returns in full regalia to the opening fanfare, this time presented as a final coda that concludes the piece. Originally written with orchestral accompaniment as the third movement of the Piano Concerto #1 in Bb minor, this arrangement for solo piano was made at the request of Joanna Ezrin, pianist and pedagogue, and has been recognized at the MTAC annual convention.

Program note:Komorebi is a Japanese word for sunlight filtering through tree leaves. This piece makes use of some (easy) special effects with sympathetic strings. It features some challenging rhythmic textures, but the harmonies are consonant, with shimmering beauty.

It is patterned after the many inventions of Bach, but with a unique and individual sound. This is more for the advanced player and a challenging with an aggressive tempo. This is the first time offered to the public. Hope you enjoy.

Published by Brian Golden (A0.1216197). Prelude 12 in Bb Minor Dorian from 24 Preludes for the Piano in Major and Minor Modes by composer Brian Golden  The creative concept in writing these preludes is to provide a link to past preludes written for the keyboard, and in particular to the works of J.S. Finally, the inspiration for each prelude came from playing through several other preludes in the same keys - mostly by Bach and Chopin - and letting their themes and styles influence me in the writing of my own.YouTube Link https://youtu.be/xb4E0I-vJek.

The Tocata Criolla is a work based on Panamanian rhythms, particularly the atravesao, a compound pattern used in the tamborito and cumbia traditions in the central provinces. The piece involves energetic gestures and agressive playing juxtaposed with more lyrical material, but with a constant energetic drive. A powerful addition to any virtuosic program, a Latin American-themed evening, or as a brilliant encore, the Tocata Criolla will surely dazzle your audience. The piece is dedicated to the memory of Panamanian composer Roque Cordero.(Duration: 6'10).

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1235275 By Elvis Presley. By Carl Sigman, Francois Becaud, and Pierre Delano. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 10 pages. Timothy Stapay #830811. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1235275). This arrangement of What Now My Love is written as performed by legendary pianist, Liberace. It's in a moderate Bolero rhythmic style. What Now, My Love? is the English title of a popular song whose original French version, Et maintenant (English: And Now) was written in 1961 by composer Gilbert Bécaud and lyricist Pierre Delanoë. The recurring musical pattern in the background is the Boléro by Ravel. English lyrics and the title were written by Carl Sigma.Lyrics:What now my love, now that you've left meHow can I live through another dayWatching my dreams turn to ashesAnd my hopes turn to bits of clayOnce I could see, once I could feelNow I am numb, I've become unrealI walk the night, without a goalStripped of my heart and my soulWhat now my love, now that it's overI feel the world falling all around meHere come the stars, tumbling around meThere's the sky, where that sea should beWhat now my love, now that you're goneI'd be a fool to go on and onNo one would care, no one would cryIf I should live if I should live or dieWhat now my love, now there is nothingOnly my last, my last good-byeWładziu Valentino Liberace(May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor. A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1199167 By Kathleen Ryan. By Kathleen Ryan. Arranged by Kathleen Ryan. Classical,Contemporary,New Age. Score. 6 pages. Indigo Mesa Music LLC #798231. Published by Indigo Mesa Music LLC (A0.1199167). English folk song.I have set this melody in several arrangements; this is actually the most rambunctious of the lot! This is bravura piano playing and not for the faint of heart. The right hand has a long passage of double notes at 16th-note speed. The left hand plays 8th-note many-octave-spanning double notes for much of the arrangement, and then has double notes at 16th-note speed for the final section. To perform this will require a lot of practice and then sheer (relaxed!) bravado.Forest Green is really my all-time favorite melody. I anticipate setting it a dozen or more different ways. For example, this is the melody the English use for the Christmas carol O Little Town of Bethlehem, and I have arranged it more lyrically for that song. Perhaps someday it will make it onto a CD.I have also used this melody for the final section of my arrangement of All Through the Night on Under the Greenwood Tree. That is a far more lyrical arrangement as well. This melody, in a highly arranged version, also makes a cameo in These Hands Held Music, on Passages. All of these arrangements are currently available in pdf. Who knows, perhaps someday I’ll create an entire album of arrangements of Forest Green!~ Kathleen

Piano Solo - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1335536 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival. Score. 19 pages. Juan Maria Solare #921371. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.1335536). Hommage to Ursula is a piano piece in memory of Ursula Görsch (1932-2023). The piece is based on the six sounding letters of her last name (GERSCH, where the O is omitted, the R represents RE - the D note in Spanish, Italian, or Turkish - and the S represents the E flat, 'Es' in German), as well as on the remaining six notes of the total chromatic scale (C#, F, F#, Ab, A, B). Both Pitch Class Sets are identical from an intervallic perspective - transposed by a tritone. Such coincidences confirm to me that I am on the right path, at least musically. The reference to Turkey is not coincidental, as Ursula taught in Istanbul for many years. The initial texture of the piece - a kind of toccata with many repeated notes - is a purely musical homage to Ursula: she used this texture in some passages of her compositions. Besides that, this piece contains no direct quotation from Ursula's music. The work Hommage an Ursula is based on a series of 12 notes. The original version (Prime) and the inverted version (Inversed) alternate. From these 24 versions of the series, 24 sections result. I add a final section based on the original series ('Das Ende im Anfange'*); thus, there are 25 sections. To order the 5 motivic elements, I generate a Latin square. The 5 elements do not rotate, but, in each of the 5 main sections, the initial motive is always the same (A), and the order of the other four (BCDE) changes, permutating according to the following Latin square:A BCDEA CEBDA DBECA EDCBA BCDEThis work can then be considered as a derivation of the 'theme and variations' structure, with the peculiarity that there are five sub-themes that are rearranged in each of the variations. This piece lasts about 11 minutes. The premiere, performed by the composer (that is, by myself), took place on November 26, 2023, at the Konzertsaal of the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, during the concert 'Gedenkkonzert Ursula Görsch und Harald Kruse', as part of the 73rd Hausmusikwoche, organized by the DTKV (German Association of Sound Artists) in cooperation with the ABK (Circle of Composers in Bremen). This is not an easy piece to listen to. It is absolutely consistent but perhaps monotonous. During the premiere, the yawns of someone in the audience prompted me to briefly interrupt the performance to inform them that the end was near. After the concert, one of the organizers suggested to me that the piece was too 'anstrengend' (demanding, exhausting). It is up to the gentle pianists to risk experiencing the same as me.* 'Das Ende im Anfange' reads the legend that can be read in the circle of tonalities reproduced by Johann Friedrich Michael Wiedeburg in his treatise Der sich selbst informirende Clavierspieler (Leipzig and Halle, 1765-1775, Verlag der Buchhandlung des Waisenhauses).Juan MarÃa SolareBremen, September & December 2023.

Lydia McCool #959403. Published by Lydia McCool (A0.1374867). Genre: contemporary lyrical, pop-style Time signature: 4/4 Tonal Center: E major Description: This is an arrangement of Chage & Aska's famous song Say Yes for advanced piano by Lydia McCool. This song is a theme song for a very popular Japanese Drama 101st Marriage Proposal 『101回目ã®ãƒ—ãƒãƒãƒ¼ã‚ºã€ in 1991. Several dotted rhythmic patterns are added to reflect the lilting of the singing. This increases the complexity of the music. The piece ends on an E chord after the final arpeggio . In the recording the final section of Chopin's E major etude is played but this part of the music is not included in this score. This etude is heard in the drama as well. Hence, they go well together. For fans of Chage Aska, this this arrangement will make a wonderful performance for public and personal enjoyment.
