Bob Chilcott's The Snow Is Fled for SATB Flute Clarinet and Piano. The snow is fled is a beautiful setting of an English translation of one of Horace's Odes. Chilcott employs a variety of choral textures crunchy harmonies and a rippling triplet Piano accompaniment to complement the imagery of Horace's ode to nature and the cycle of the seasons. Mellifluous countermelodies from the Flute and Clarinet add further colour to the overall picture.

In this collaboration with author Charles Bennett the journey of a boat becomes a metaphor for the journey through life. The nine Choral movements present their own stories within the whole with interludes highlighting solo instruments (these may be omitted if performing with Piano).

Bob Chilcott's The Sun And Stars Are Mine for SSA choir with Piano accompaniment.The Sun And Stars Are Mine is a lyrical setting of words by the metaphysical poet and clergyman Thomas Traherne (1637-74). With a rippling Piano accompaniment melodious vocal lines and warm harmonies Chilcott's setting captures the wonder in the text as Traherne reflects with awe on the transient nature of life: 'When silent I so many thousand years . . . how could I lips or hands or eyes or ears perceive?'

The King Shall Rejoice was commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster to mark the sixtieth anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen's coronation.Setting powerful and optimistic words from Psalm 21 Chilcott establishes a celebratory mood from the outset with dancing 6/8 rhythms and jubilant ringing chords. The voices soon divide into two choirs creating a striking antiphonal effect and the music moves through sections of slower more sustained writing in 4/4.The second half of the work sets an adapted version of the psalm text famously used by William Byrd - 'O Lord make thy servant Elizabeth our Queen rejoice in thy strength' - beforecoming to a buoyant and triumphant close with the final 'amen'.

For upper voices (SSSA) and piano. The music is dynamic with some funky writing for the piano and building to a fabulous climax where several themes are deftly combined together. A great piece to end a concert. Part of the Oxford Chilcott Secular series (BC33).

For SATB and Soprano solo. Fresh and unsentimental this setting is as beautiful as the familiar anthem by Stainer of this much-loved text and a worthy alternative.

for upper voices SATB and piano (with snare and tenor drums and solo cello) or chamber orchestra. This profound setting of poems by Wilfred Owen explores the idea of the sun as a redemptive force. The sense of human connection and vivid imagery of the natural world imbued in Owen's poetry is perfectly conveyed in Chilcott's music which is rich in highly effective word painting and melodies as visceral as the poetry itself. The first movement 'Song of Songs' sets the tone for the work balancing a sense of reverence and solemnity with hopefulness and optimism and a poignant and moving setting of Futility is a powerful focal point.Chilcott supplements the choral texture to great effect with snare and tenor drum creating a mood of expectancy in 'Spring Offensive' and a middle movement for tenor and cello soloists that inhabits a stark musical landscape that blossoms harmonically as the soldier tells of the 'fellowships' and 'beauty' they have found.

This is a characterful three-movement work for Recorder quartet with a vivacious first movement which switches between 2/4 and 3/8 a slower folksong-like central movement and a bright final movement.

Composed for the Reykjavik Cathedral Choir's Solo Dei Gloria festival in 2004 Advent Antiphous is an exquisite concert setting of the Great O Antiphons. Traditionally chanted or sung between 17th and 23rd December the Antiphons comprise seven brief prayers which proceed in sequence charting events from before Creation through to the birth of Christ.For SATB double choir a capella.
