Orlan Charles started musical study in 1991, at Fabio Marasca Music School in Rio Claro, the city that he currently resides in, located in the state of São Paulo - Brazil. His first musical instrument was the recorder. After the recorder he studied classical piano and flute at Piracicaba's Music School (now Unimep) with Rafael Gobeth and Cecilia Bellato. In 1995 he became flautist in Rio Claro and Limeira Symphony Orchestras and played piccolo flute in Campinas Pro-Music Orchestra.
Still in the 90s, parallel to his studies and performances with classical music, he had his "choro" group called Showrinho, which performed in bars and restaurants in Rio Claro and nearby towns. In 1996 he started to work with keyboards, gigging with country duos and bands, and linked up with the country duo Edson and Hudson. Parallel to this, he also performed in the presenter Raul Gil’s background band, from the extinct “Rede Manchete” television network.
In 2001 he went to the US for two months, where he performed with Sensassamba, a group of samba and pagoda and also played ‍ choro” and MPB with the group Showrinho at bars and restaurants of San Francisco and surrounding areas. With Edson and Hudson he played in the US, London, Madrid, Porto and Lisboa (Portugal). With the same duo, he participated in the live recording of five DVDs and five CDs (in 2005; 2006; 2007; 2009 and 2012).
He also performed in the DVD recording of other artists, like the “Boteco” of Felipe and Falcão duo (2007); Trio Só Paixão group (2012); “De Volta as Origens” from Eduardo and Rafael duo (2013) and the solo singer Christian Luz (2013).
Nowadays, besides his work with Edson and Hudson, he also perform in the Church of Nossa Senhora do Carvaggio’s band, from father Jocelir, in Rio Claro, and also works with music production and studio recordings. (Hide extended text) ... (Read all)
